Personal history
Their stories of monster hunting can be told by Krygiek for hours, around the campfire, none can tell a tale like Krygie' and if you give him some brew beforehand he'll tell you some of the secrets of their trade, some facts about monsters, and sometimes if drunk enough, who he thinks his father is. Despite the attention he receives and the seemingly carefree nature he projects, Krygiek is deeply lonely. Aside from Elbrus Doev, he has few true friends, considering most people in his life as passing faces and clients. He remains detached from the world around him, preferring to play the character he knows well rather than face the complexities of genuine emotional connections. Krygiek's humor and wit act as a mask, concealing feelings of abandonment, inadequacy, and disappointment. Unlike Elbrus, Krygiek has memories of his life before becoming a Vyedymi. Memories of his childhood, his mother in particular, left him with a penetrating sense of loneliness, and he guards his very heart closely, not allowing others aside from Doev to get too close. Behind the sarcasm and sharp remarks lies a vulnerability he hides from the world. While Elbrus grapples with somber thoughts of lost love, Krygiek has no fond memories of love to cherish. His emotional distance makes it difficult for him to form deep connections, leaving him yearning for affection and companionship that eludes him. An encounter in both their lives that has affected them deeply is a relatively recent encounter in the village of Enhauc in northern Salia. Krygiek and Doev were contracted by the village to investigate creatures nearby that had taken livestock in the village during the night, livestock that was the main source of income and food for the village. While Doev is away gathering supplies, Krygiek interviews villagers who have eyewitness accounts of the monsters stealing their cattle. Krygiek's interviews with the victims of the monster attacks reveal the suspected location of the monster's den, a nearby cave system and so he goes to investigate it himself. Yet as he investigates the cave, he discovers the heartbreaking reality that the so-called monsters were actually young giants, far from their home and desperately trying to survive in unfamiliar territory. Upon finding the giants trapped in the cave, Krygiek's compassionate nature takes over. He realizes that these creatures are lost and struggling to survive in a hostile environment. Instead of proceeding with their contract to slay the "monsters," Krygiek demands that they decline payment and offer assistance to the giants instead, offering to personally relocate them elsewhere. However, the villagers' anger and fear override their understanding, leading them to form a mob and launch an attack on the cave in a misguided attempt to protect themselves. Upon learning of the village's actions the morning after, Krygiek and Doev discover the bloody scene that had unfolded in the cave during the night, dozens of villagers were killed and blood is everywhere inside the cave. Krygiek delves deeper and discovers three giant corpses further inside, they clearly successfully fought off the mob yet were each mortally wounded, dying in the arms of each other. The devastating consequences of this encounter weigh heavily on Krygiek's heart and mind. He is haunted by the realization that the very beings he vowed to protect the world from were, in reality, victims themselves. The harrowing experience challenges the virtues and ideals Krygiek himself had beaten into him in Erod-a-Raihan, that monsters were to be slain, not understood or reasoned with, something Krygiek no longer believes. These days, life had just started becoming monotonous, Rus' and Krygie' had made their way south to Lugous on the trail of a particular beast when they stumbled upon a rag-tag bunch of misfits led by an orphan boy, a fiery huntress, a lovestruck pirate, a sad Northman, and a big bloody giantess. The Vyedymi pair could have mistaken this pair for a circus and made their way past them, but who knows why they stopped and chatted, maybe it was fate or destiny because from that day the duo would be invested in the noblest quest imaginable, saving the world.

History
Meeting on the long road to Erod-a-Raihan, the Witchmen pair of Elbrus Doev and Jakub Krygiek are as unlikely a pairing as any could find. Doev, the softspoken, stoic, and senior of the two while Krygiek is notoriously loud-mouthed, jovial, and more a salesman than a fighter. Nevertheless, the two gravitated towards one another during their training years inside the walls of the Vyedymi fortress and both slowly broke down the walls they had put up on their way. Slowly Doev and Krygiek each learned Hasdinian, an order policy, and each taught the other their mother languages. After being deemed able to complete work in the field, both men received their gear and set out to work, accompanying each other of course. Witchmen pairs are rare, when they set off they immediately come into several contracts that required their pairing and saw them barely survive the encounters. Anyone who comes into contact with the pair can attest to their roles, Krygiek is the showman, the salesman who talks them up to contractors while Doev stoically sits and waits for the meeting to end. In the field, Doev is as skilled and strong as they come and does the heavy lifting while Krygeik brews the potions, shoots arrows, handles the harmless creatures, and collects the rewards. This system works well and hasn't resulted in any hiccups for the pair.
