The Forgotten One

One of the most mysterious beings in existence the Forgotten One is a being that is capable of giving those who take his interest impossible gifts. It appears in the form of a forgotten person, being or creature speaking in a tone that leaves the listening unnerved and with pitch black eyes that are said to drive anyone who stares for too long insane. It can freeze reality, appear and disappear, transform and perform any other number of strange tasks.   While not a deity, many worship the Forgotten One hoping to be noticed and given its impossible gifts. A desire perpetuated by the fact that it has interfered with the Realm of Balance more perhaps than any of the ederic deities and in ways that have often marked great upheavals or changes in society. The few who have managed to study it have however often found that worshiping it is madness as it cares little for the desires and feelings of mortals instead pursuing whatever it conceives to be ‘interesting’.   Worshipers depict the forgotten one as a young androgynous peasant child with pitch black eyes often floating from the ground. It appears erratically to those who interest it as and when it wishes. Many tend to carve runes from bones or raw arcanum based on images passed down or that come to them in dreams. Unlike the entity itself these relics often possess strange eldritch abilities that defy natural laws and are hunted and destroyed by many organised faiths.    Worship of the Forgotten One has always existed in Aesalia and how and when it began is a mystery. Unlike the other patrons and deities the Forgotten One exists beyond the Realms in the in-between space known as the void which has no physical presence causing yet more confusion about its very nature.

Artifacts

The bone runes of the Forgotten One have a range of complex and confusing powers that seem to themselves vary dependent on the wielder. Many sugest the power of the rune is dependent on the true need of the wielder or exist to one day provide a skill needed for them to complete a task necessary for the Forgotten One itself. Others suggest that the runes shape being derived, allegedly, from imagery of the void causes the chaotic realm it represents to seep into its powers. Whatever the truth these runes are often sought after by students of the arcane for the fascinating secrets inside and destroyed by Tathamites and those fearing the danger of the void itself.
