Elf
Basic Information
Anatomy
Elves are tall humanoids with long pointed ears. They have a strong natural connection to Fae Magic. Elves tend to be physically weaker than other races, as well as more vulnerable to disease.
Biological Traits
There are two main types of elf: Éadrom, descended from the Seelie, and Dorhadas, descended from the Unseelie.
Éadrom are light-skinned and are more naturally proficient with enchantments and mental manipulation, whereas Dorhadas are dark-skinned and are naturally more proficient with curses and illusions. The physical differences end there for the most part, but there are significant cultural differences between the two, and they usually do not like each other.
There is a third type of elf, the Alfr. Alfar are a type of Helvaettr, a demon from Hel. One of the few things that the Éadrom and Dorhadas have in common is a hatred of Alfar, and most will deny that an Alfr is actually an elf at all.
Genetics and Reproduction
Elves reproduce sexually and are viviparous. Their gestation period is two years. Elves are either the result of reproduction between a Fae and another race, or between two elves.
Conception amongst elves is a rare occurrence, at least from the perspective of most other races.
Growth Rate & Stages
Elf children grow slowly compared to most other races, being considered of age at the age of thirty-five.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Elves are omnivorous and are somewhat adaptable.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Elves have above-average hearing and eyesight and are otherwise average.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Elf given names typically consist of a meaningful prefix or suffix attached to a name with no particular meaning. Examples: Narana'ios or Dae'terio
Elf surnames are typically combined upon marriage. For instance, if an Avantir marries an Irell, their surnames might become Avanell or Iretir.
Major Organizations
Gender Ideals
Elves typically pay little attention to gender outside of courtship.
Relationship Ideals
Most elves revile relationships between Éadrom and Dorhadas, and the offspring born of these relationships are generally considered to be abominations. These are known as Náire. Náire are generally expected to not reproduce, even with other Náire.
Relationships with non-elves are generally considered acceptable, except in the case of Orcs.
Average Technological Level
Somewhat mirroring their Fae ancestors, the Dorhadas tend to have more advanced technology than the Éadrom, although the gap is not as great.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Éadrom tend to be more agrarian, whereas Dorhadas tend to be more industrial. The Éadrom rely on the Dorhadas for most of their stone and metal, and the Dorhadas rely on the Éadrom for most of their food and textiles.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Because of their association with Fae, elves are often distrusted by other races, often being stereotyped as greedy scammers who would sell their own family for a few silver coins, then steal them back to sell them again.
