Jubokko
Jubokko are trees that consume blood instead of water.
Basic Information
Anatomy
A jubokko appears almost indistinguishable from a normal tree. However, there are a few ways to tell them apart:
- There may sometimes be bones strewn about the ground surrounding a jubokko.
- Scavengers will sometimes hang around in the area nearby a jubokko.
- If a jubokko's branches are exposed to fire, it will attempt to recoil from it.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Jubokko are hematophagous. When a person or animal strays beneath a jubokko, its branches will suddenly swoop down and grab them, restraining them and lifting them into the air. Then, special branches that act similarly to proboscides impale the victim and drain their blood until they are completely exsanguinated. Afterwards, the body is simply dropped to the ground, and is often eaten by scavengers.
Additional Information
Domestication
There have been many attempts to domesticate jubokko, but they have all failed. Because of this, the Prince of Naraka outlawed the practice long ago.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Jubokko Sap is the source of their regenerative abilities, and as such, makes for extremely powerful medicine. However, raw Jubokko Sap is fatal to most creatures almost instantly.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Jubokko primarily detect things through vibrations in the ground. Some speculate that they also have a strong, but very short-range, sense of smell. However, this is unconfirmed.
