Nuckelavee

Basic Information

Anatomy

A nuckelavee is a strange creature, resembling in shape a horse that appears to have a humanoid "rider" fused to its back. It has no skin, and it has quite sharp teeth. Additionally, its mouth and eyes constantly emit a poisonous gas, which causes chemical burns upon contact and can, if inhaled, kill within a minute. The nuckelavee can also expel this gas from its mouth, with a range of about fifteen feet. When a nuckelavee dies, the gas stops, and the body begins to swell. After a duration typically ranging from five to fifteen minutes, the corpse explodes violently, filling the nearby area with gas.   It is widely debated whether the "horse" and "rider" are, in fact, the same creature, or two different creatures fused together. There is little evidence to support either position, as nuckelavees are both rare and extremely dangerous.

Genetics and Reproduction

The reproductive method of nuckelavees is unknown, but most assume that it is sexual.

Ecology and Habitats

Nuckelavees can be found almost anywhere in Faerie, but are most common near the coastline.

Dietary Needs and Habits

No one has yet been able to study the dietary habits of a nuckelavee, but the common consensus based on their anatomy is that they are carnivorous.

Additional Information

Domestication

There have been exactly three known attempts to domesticate a nuckelavee, and all have ended in disaster. The practice is outlawed in both Selríocht and Duairlacht.

Average Intelligence

Nuckelavees generally display high levels of intelligence, enough that some people believe them to be sapient. However, there have been no successful attempts at communicating with a nuckelavee, leading most to believe that they're simply highly intelligent monsters.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Nuckelavees appear to have above-average senses of smell and hearing. Their other senses are unknown and assumed to be roughly average.
