Zabaniya

Zabaniya are a type of Djinn. They are typically elite guards and assassins.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Zabaniya are humanoid, have four arms, with claws on each hand, a prehensile tail, which has a rigid and extremely sharp tip (not unlike the head of a spear in shape), and have feathered wings. Zabaniya have the ability to ignite part of their own body with black fire, which is five times hotter than regular fire. They can also propel this fire up to fifteen feet. A zabaniya cannot be burned by their own fire.
Zabaniya also have very tough skin. This serves as a natural armor, which is superior to a gambeson, but inferior to mail, and is also extremely resistant to fire.

Genetics and Reproduction

Zabaniya do not reproduce, but are created by the lords of Jahannam from other types of Djinn. This process is known as Ascension.
Each noble lord's main residence contains a ritual chamber, which contains an extremely complex magical array etched into the floor. The specifics of how to perform the Ascension ritual are known only to the head of each noble house. The penalty for revealing this information is an execution, carried out over the course of one week.

Zabaniya typically live in deserts, and have a high heat tolerance.

Social Structure

Zabaniya directly serve the lords of Jahannam as guards and assassins. Each noble household is allowed to retain up to nineteen zabaniya, who take orders from the head of the family only. They have no loyalty or obligations towards the Prince of Jahannam, unless they are the Prince's zabaniya. If a household retains more than nineteen zabaniya, the head of the household and all of their zabaniya are executed. These executions can be carried out by any noble household without permission from the Prince. If this rule is broken more than three times within thirty years, the entire household, including soldiers and servants, is executed and the household is officially removed from the nobility.
