The Crusade

Military action

1312
1320

The Crusade was the war against King Agrimas, of Irkalla. Technically, it just refers to the counterattack made by Methuselah and the Templars, but it has come to refer to the entire war, from the time that the Humans arrived.

In the year 1200, scores of Human refugees arrived in Aevorea, fleeing enslavement in Irkalla. Three kingdoms, one of them being Staerenriki, took in these refugees and integrated them into their societies. For a while, all was well. However, Agrimas was displeased at losing two-thirds of his enslaved workforce, and opened a massive portal to Aevorea, the largest portal ever opened in recorded history. Agrimas led his demonic army through this portal, razing everything in his path. Two of the three kingdoms were destroyed quickly, their populations exterminated. The third, Staerenriki, managed to put up some resistance, but even it fell. However, when but one Staerenian city remained, populated by the Human refugees and the few surviving Svarts, Agrimas left.   There was discord in Irkalla, and Agrimas went back to quell it. Emissaries from some of the gods arrived in the remaining Aevorean kingdoms, informing them of plans for a counterattack. An army was formed, called the Templars, who joined with an army of holy servants led by one called Methuselah, and they followed Agrimas through his portal, which couldn't be safely closed in time to prevent their pursuit. With civil wars having broken out across Irkalla, Agrimas was hard-pressed to restore order and simultaneously fight Methuselah's army.   Eventually, Agrimas was cornered. There was a final clash between the two armies, which were both nearly destroyed in the conflict. Methuselah was killed, thrown into The Abyss, but not before mortally wounding Agrimas. The Aevorean survivors of the conflict returned through the portal, which was closed afterwards, a process that took months to safely complete.
