Irkalla

Irkalla is the realm of demons and the Daemonium pantheon of gods.

Geography

There are five regions in Irkalla: Inferna, Jahannam, Naraka, Tartarus, and Hel. All of them are quite inhospitable. Irkalla is surrounded by The Abyss.   The continent is split into four sections. Long ago, these sections were connected, but they were split during the Sundering.

History

Long ago, Irkalla was ruled by a King, Agrimas. He ruled with the favor of the Irkallan gods and was unchallenged for centuries. Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. When roughly two-thirds of the Human slaves were taken from Irkalla, Agrimas led his armies to Aevorea in retaliation. He found and nearly destroyed the kingdoms that had taken them in, but received word that a civil war was brewing in his absence. A traitor, Methuselah, had been sowing discord among his subjects. By the time Agrimas returned, the Princes were all fighting each other. As if that weren't enough, Methuselah had gained the favor of the Aevorean gods and was granted great power by them. Methuselah led an army of the Aevorean gods' servants as well as the newly-formed Templars against Agrimas.   This event, which became known as the Sundering, was long and bloody. It was during this time that the continent was split into four separate pieces. For seven years the wars raged, and eventually, Methuselah gained the upper hand against Agrimas. He cornered Agrimas' army at the edge of Inferna. The two armies clashed for a final time, and both were nearly completely destroyed. Methuselah and Agrimas ended up facing each other in combat directly. Agrimas slew Methuselah by throwing him into The Abyss, but was mortally wounded in the process. On his deathbed, he spoke a prophecy foretelling the end of Irkalla, which was now inevitable because of his death, according to him. This prophesied event became known as The Harrowing.   It took eight more years for the civil wars to die down completely, the five Principalities becoming independent afterwards. Today, they are still generally quite hostile to each other, and wars are commonplace.
