Unable to get his twin sons Kregg and Rudrick to agree on who should succeed them, King Dravan the Second of Eldessar names each of them "Regent of the Eldess", giving Kregg dominion over the eastern half of the kingdom and Rudrick the western half. The decision is surprising but not nearly as shocking as the King's decision that his nephew Branner will succeed him. These actions result in a split of the vast kingdom from which it would never recover.
