Western Region
The real predator here is the wind itself.
This barren region is often described as more of a wasteland than anything else due to the frigid harsh winds coming off of the Distant Abyss. Winds whip and howl almost constantly with few minutes of respite in between. What few hills dot this region provide a measure of protection for some. Trade through this area happens though they tend to stick to the more sunlit times of the year where its easier to traverse, often using the dire elk to assist in transportation.
Geography
A large majority of this region exists on a plateau a few hundred feet above sea level. Few hills which at one point were mountains dot the landscape and provide minimal shelter. To the north and continuing southeast the Western Region is bordered by the Ice Spine Peaks which protect the Central and Eastern region from roughly 80-90% of the winds that batter it.
Fauna & Flora
Only the most hearty of flora and fauna can survive in this region. The Dire Wolf is most often seen in by the Ice Spine Peaks in the most northern area of the region while the Dire Elks make their home further south living off what they can find near the hills where the wind is not as bad.
Plants
Forests are rare in this region only existing where the hills keep the winds in check. Hearty dwarf pines are in abundance in those areas thicker in diameter than their cousins in the other regions. Due to their heartiness they have been dubbed Iron Pines by many of the natives as they are both hard to chop down and also they most reliable building material in the region. Shrubs and bushes are also plentiful and act as food for the Dire Elks. Beneath the layers of snow and ice remnants of grass can sometimes be found and during the summer months the most southern of the Reaches becomes home to number tuff grass patches dotting the barren plains.Animals
As stated above the Dire Wolves and Dire Elks are the predominant creatures of this region due to their bulk and heavy furs. Because of this reason they are also heavily hunted for their meat and furs. The Dire Elk is also highly sought after for their strength in regards to pulling caravan wagons. Birds and smaller animals are rare in this region as the winds blow many of them away and the harsh temperatures chill many to their deaths. Their is no sea life so to speak due to this region being noticeably higher above sea level than the rest of the Reaches and sheer cliffs make up the coastal line of the Western boarder.Natural Resources
Within this region the Golden Vein Hills is the only area the dwarves and other miners have discovered gold. Due to this the area where the gold was discovered is built up as a mining town and Dwarven settlement. Furs and meat of the larger animals are often traded for and used as a currency amongst hunters and foragers. Also the Iron Pine is a well sought after commodity for houses and caravans to be constructed from.
