Haydar Zheng

Councilor Haydar Zheng

Haydar is a political science professor at the Royal Academy of Arts and Science. Under his tutelage, a number of ambassadors, politicians, and diplomats have developed nation-shaping policies. A native of Yahven, he has never left the city, and yet his influence is so profound his name is spoken even in courts across the sea. On top of his duties at the Academy, he is a member of The Council and a dedicated family man assisting in the upbringing of his two children. He has written numerous academic articles and books on political science and the art of negotiation as well as assisted a number of his students in crafting their own trade proposals and diplomatic agreements.   In The Council, his concern is international relations and keeping things peaceful. As things are relatively stable with Vesmos, his primary concern is relations with the nation of Lasceye, which has finally begun to emerge from it's isolation. He believes that Kaisu should show its neighbors a better way than war and thus emerge as a leader of Aheilan politics.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Haydar has a severe look about him, his brows set low over his eyes, and his lips resting at a slight frown. He has sharp features and narrow eyes. This intimidating appearance is only enhanced by the ornate clothing and jewelry he wears, clearly demarking his status as someone with wealth and power. And yet he carries himself with a sort of softness. He is often distracted, lost in thought, or with his nose buried in a book, even as he walks the halls of the Royal Academy. As such, he has a reputation for being a bit of a klutz.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Haydar was born to the son of a governor in Kaisu. It was always assumed he would take his father's place, eventually, and so he was sent to the Royal Academy to study politics. Once he got there, however, and began his studies, he did not want to leave. He found himself at home among the books, discussing theory with his peers and indulging in the entertainment the city had to offer. And then he met Tamina Harduvel and fell in love. It was the final reason he needed to stay. To his fathers utter bewilderment and dismay, he opted to stay at the Academy and take on a position as a professor.   When Haydar was twenty, he proposed to Tamina and within a year they were married. For the first five years of their marriage, they were both focused on their careers, but eventually, they decided to have children, and they were blessed with twins. Haydar took a small break from teaching to help his wife in raising their sons for the first three years of their lives. When he did resume his duties as a professor, he still made sure to make plenty of time for his family.   Then, to his utter surprise, several of his students banned together and nominated him for a position on The Council, which he won with hardly any campaigning on his part. Unwilling to give up his work as a professor, Haydar has been stretched thin by his duties as a Councilor, and while he relishes the chance to do some good, he will be relieved when his term is up.

Education

Attending the Royal Academy, Haydar was primarily interested in the humanities and arts: History, economics, politics, literature, and painting. He always had an aptitude for theory and critical thinking over memorizing details and implementing practical solutions to problems.

Morality & Philosophy

Haydar is a true believer in world peace. He sees it as an attainable future rather than an abstract goal. And he believes it will be Kaisu that will lead the world into this shining future though enlightenment and diplomacy. He believes that it is the role of a diplomat to help other nations understand that what is good for one is good for all, a notion often dismissed as manipulative or even a blatant lie.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Haydar is motivated by two things: his grand ideals and his love for his family. His children are his main priority and there is nothing he wouldn't do for them. Beyond that, he has spent his life chasing the goal of world peace. He hopes to accomplish this by raising a generation of politicians and diplomats that are able to affect change world-wide and gradually alter the culture of politics in every country they go to.

Virtues & Personality perks

Haydar is a deep thinker, very philosophical, and thus never rushes to judgement. He acts slowly, deliberately and with wisdom and counsel from those who have expertise he lacks. He is by all accounts warm and nurturing, towards his family and his students, only pushing them as needed and always assuring them of his affection and pride.

Vices & Personality flaws

The very things that make Haydar a good Councilor also limit his effectiveness. Because he likes to think everything through, and because he's so philosophical, he often can take too long to make a decision or second-guess himself once he's made it. In spite of his lofty goals, he takes a very passive role, rather than affecting change himself, which often draws the criticism of his peers.
