Nome of the High Seats

As the original Regime began to crumble, a group of Wood Elves left the strict order of their high brethren and established a settlement in the ancient forests of the hills separating the high steppes from the open plain. Eager to avoid the notice of both sides in the Legion-Regime War, they established their homes high in the ancient trees and resisted any advance by either the Legion or the Regime to occupy the forest.   Persuading both the Storm's Eye and the High Seats to sign the Treaty of Blessed Concordance was perhaps the greatest achievement of the diplomats of the Orosi. While initially pleased to simply remain aloof in the security of the treaty’s non-agression terms, the wood elves gradually became more and more involved in the political and diplomatic life of The Elysian Federation, even grudgingly acting as envoys to the high elves of the Broken Ground.   The wood elves have a somewhat laisse faire approach to internal government, with communities – from villages to the great tree-cities of Olavo (overwatch) and Tisalatha (whispering wind) – being led by those mature adults – between the ages of 250 and 350 – with the drive and ambition to devote themselves to the good of the community, advised by their elders and held to account by the younger adults.   The electors of the Nome are the Highsitters (first among the leaders), Treekeepers (leading priest) and Lorespeakers (first among advisers) of Olavo and Tisalatha, and the Sky Singer, leader of the monastery of Yaloohi (wisdom of the clouds). When a Lorespeaker retires from their office, they take up the mantle of First Listener, the Nomarch of the High Seats, which they hold until another Lorespeaker retires.
