Duke/Duchess
Duke is a tier two noble rank. It is below Monarch , King/Queen & Prince/Princess and above Count/Countess. Duke is a male title either of a monarch ruling over a duchy, or of a member of royalty, or nobility. As rulers, dukes are ranked below emperors, kings, grand princes, grand dukes, and sovereign princes. As royalty or nobility, they are ranked below princes and grand dukes.
A duchy is the territory or geopolitical entity ruled by a duke, whereas his title or area is often called a dukedom. These are part of the nine regions mentioned before. Duke/Duchess is the fist tier in which the Coronet band becomes more of a crown with an expensive inner layer of Silk, Velvet, or other material, as well as arches to raise the ornamentation about the banding. As with higher tier coronets the Crown is inlaid with gems, or contrasting metal.
Dukes will also favor an elaborate sash with or without gilding rather than a Livery Collar and take on small ornate staffs, or scepters.
As the highest tier landed ruler outside of the monarch, Dukes have elaborate castle palaces with strong defenses as well as hosting facilities, as many forms of lower tier nobility will come for business; however, it is rare for Dukes to reside at only one residence, and in addition will have some form of protected elaborate palace estate at the capitol for their stay when visiting the Monarch.
