Knight De Chevalier
Knight De Chevalier, also known as Knight 2nd Class is a Sixth tier rank assigned to a Martial commander of a Canton. This title sits below Baron/Baroness , and is awarded by any Tier Noble to help with their management of their holdings. As such a Baron could appoint a Knight De Chevalier to oversee a Canton of his holding, just as a Count could appoint their own Knight 2nd Class to oversee holdings of the Count's territory.
No matter whom appointed the Knight 2nd Class, they are referred to as Sir of , and although they are allowed to wear their own heraldry or crest, most will follow the crest of their appointing patron, as will all of the knights garrison, and hirelings.
Knight De Chevalier wear a Torse, and a simple cloth and enameled metal Livery Collar They are allowed control over one settlement of up to 100 inhabitants with an area of control extending no more than 25 miles radius. Garrisons are allowed; however, they are never allowed to exceed what the Barony could overcome if 2 or 3 knights rose up and changed allegiances.
Duties
A knight was supposed to show bravery, strength and skill in battle (this was called prowess), to respect women, to defend the weak and the poor, to be generous to others and loyal to his lord, his family and his friends.
Responsibilities
knights and nobles held estates (fiefs) granted by greater lords in return for military and other service. This feudal system (from the medieval Latin feodum or feudum, fee or fief) enabled a cash-poor but land-rich lord to support a military force. But this was not the only way that land was held, knights maintained, and loyalty to a lord retained.
