Emperor Rivian Lucanus

The 28th Lucanus Emperor of The Martéan Empire, Rivian is known for carrying on the legacy of his forefathers and continuing the expansion of the empire. Not much is really known from the Martéans about their Emperor, as he is seen often leading campaigns throughout the country's borders, rather than being at home to rule, leaving much of his rule to his queen. This does not damage his reputation among the Martéans; however, as many see him as a war hero. Outside of the Empire, many see Rivian as a cruel tyrant, mainly due to the burning and exodus of The Golden Forest, which was home to the wood elves of the region.

Born to a Legacy of War

The Lucanus line of The Martéan Empire is one that is steeped in war, being viewed as a line of conquerors, as they were the ones to take their people to The Continent and conquer new lands. Being so far into this line, Rivian was raised and groomed to be a warrior king, just like his father before him, but found that many discredited his reign, declaring that he and his father had very little to their name. He was a skilled enough warrior, respected enough by his military, but his people, who craved conquest and expansion, wanted him to do more, to make ground against the enemies of the Empire.

Leading to the Exodus of the Elves

Rivian's reputation continued to decrease, despite only being a year into his rule, after the invasion of The Valkan Isles and the taking of one of the Empire's northern isles. Feeling the need to save face and reinforce his own personal legacy, Rivian knew that he had to make ground against the Sahrian Union, whom his people had been at war with for centuries. He set The Golden Forest ablaze, forcing the wood elves from their home. Many outside of the empire called it an egregious war crime, the people of the Empire cheered him, declaring him a king worthy of the conqueror reputation associated with the Lucanus line. Now, he is loved by his people, while being more than hated by both the elven kingdoms and the Sahrian Union.
