Ildan Adarin

The military commander of Avalencia's army, along with the head general of his people, Ildan is a veteran warrior, being one of the few, older drow to still live and be in service to Queen Dalia. Despite his advancing age, Ildan is still one of the best warrior among the drow, and his added experience is invaluable to his people as a tactician, able to keep the military afloat in spite of all of the strife that they have faced. His general distain for politics has kept him out of the queen's way, which is one of the main reasons he remains a part of the Royal Council.

Personal history

The Blood of a Warrior

Being the son of a noble family, Ildan knew that he would always be the lesser sire to his sister, despite being the older of two. He would go down the route that many other male nobles would because of this, becoming a warrior, treated as the more expendable of the two. He was given little political power throughout his life, being treated well enough given his noble birth, but having to earn his eventual renown through the many battles against the threats of the Underdark. His mother was the noble, and his father her concubine, as well as her bodyguard, whom he learned a great deal from. His admiration of his father did not fade even the death of his father, leading to him choosing to distance himself from his mother, becoming a man with his own merits, taking his father's surname instead of his mother's.

An Old Man in a Profession Where Men Die Young

No matter what he faced, whether they be eldritch horrors, mindflayers or duergar, Ildan always survived, returning the victor more times than not. He rose through the ranks, earning the respect of the military as he did so, becoming a source of inspiration for many young warriors. Being the only surviving commander of his experience, Ildan eventually, and somewhat reluctantly, accepted a place in the royal court, being one of the few to maintain it even after the coronation of the young Queen, Dalia, who respected his struggle to get where he was today.
