The Kinslayer

Many consider The Kinslayer to be nothing more than a myth, with its existence being one that many people find difficult to believe is real. Its name was given to it after it was discovered that it hunted his own kind, with that being eldritch monstrosities. None are sure as to why it would ever do this, as that would mean it would have to be outside of the hive mind of Zyggog, since it is usually rumoured to be in the Material Plane. There have been many arguments about its appearance, but one thing remains constant. It wields a sickle and a staff holding a lantern, and none who cross it survive.

Eldritch of Blood, Mortal of mind

Those who research the eldritch know of The Kinslayer, and those are the ones that often argue for its existence. Given Zyggog's control of memories, and its use of a hive mind that likely spans far beyond the confines of The Continent, most theorise that the Kinslayer is a mortal who's soul was transferred into the body of an eldritch monster, rather than its mind being taken over with the rest of his body, allowing it to maintain its own identity. There is a lesser accepted theory that he it simply the only being to break free from Zyggog's control or is simply not associated with Zyggog at all, coming from a different plane of existence entirely. The only thing that can be entirely agreed on is that it has lived for a long time, being cited, at the earliest, a millennia ago.

The Myths of the Kinslayer

Given its long lived existence, The Kinslayer has many a myth associated with it. One is that it comes when the Ultis hides his light behind the lesser moon, Avlara, enveloping a day in darkness, breaking its contract to slay the eldritch, choosing to hunt the children of mortals. There is little concrete evidence for this myth, given that the broker of the contract is never specified, and is more so used to scare naughty children into behaving. Another is that it is the personification of mortal vengeance against the eldritch, hungering to destroy the Eldritch Horrors that plague the land. This myth dictates that it was put on the Material Realm by the twin goddesses Avalore and Afrid, sick of watching the mortals they helped create be slaughtered needlessly but creatures out of their control.
