Background: Former Slave

Your character has been a Slave Status since their early childhood. You were sold into slavery in one of the largest city-states of the Dragonshome Islands. Branded with a Slave Tatoo, you have been in the service of one of the major Drákos Tribes and Families.   The possiblities for your life as a slave are endless:
  • Perhaps you were an assistant to one of the household domestic leaders, or
  • perhaps you were responsible for aspects of the family busness, or
  • perhaps you were a tutor to the young children, given your previous experience with writing or arithmetic, or
  • perhaps you were the trusted valet of a senior member of the family, or
  • perhaps you may have been a member of the kitchen staff, and perhaps once or twice been responsible for poisoning a visiting guest, or
  • perhaps you may have outwardly been a common messenger or page for the family, while secretly you worked with the families underground contacts and conducted a variety of illegal transactions or even killings.
Slaves in the city-states are invisible. They are everywhere and yet go unnoticed. They are generally treated well, but there are always exceptions -- perhaps a particularly abusive family, or a family member that acts significantly worse once out of sight.   While you were a slave, you demonstrated the capacity for Bloodline magic. Per the laws of the island nation, your family was required to register your manumission, remove (or deactivate) your tatoo, and sponsor your attendance at the Drákos Akadimía.   Though you are no longer a slave, you bear the psychological scars and social disadvantages that come with your former status. You however also have seen the underbelly of Drákos civilization, and have formed several relationships that you carry with you into your new life.
Starting Build
Your previous family provides for your tuition and basic needs while at the Akadimía. You are provided a 33 silver drachma per month stipend. You have no other starting equipment.   Character does however have 1d4+1 personal contacts.   You are assumed to have a poor lifestyle.   Home City and Sponsor Family
Your game master will select the city that served as your home during your servitude, as well as the family which owned your contract. Ancestry
On the western side of the mountains, Norjord clans are generally human or Goliath. Eastern Rus tribes are generally human or hobgoblin. Gnome and dwarf clans can be found under the mountains and often trade with the clans.   Your background as a slave and your demonstration of bloodline magic imply several things about your Character Ancestry.   By choosing this background you restrict your choice of ancestry to one of the following:   Naming
You may or may not have an original name from your peoples. If your backstory of how you came to be a slave includes being old enough to have an original name, please select from your original ethnicity. If your family assigned you a new name, or you were too young to yet have a name, select a name from the Drákos norms or a similarly appropriate name. You will be given the surname of your sponsoring family on entry into the Akadimía.   Initial Focus
If you are starting the game at level 1, you are free to choose your Character Focus.   If your game master is starting the campaign at a higher level levels, your background will determine the initial focus (Character Class) available to your character. You are free to choose another Character Focus upon starting the Akadamía.   You have the choice between the following starting classes. These will be your first class in the event of multiclassing.
  • Rogue (with an archetype appropriate to your backstory)
  • Bard (with a college appropriate to your backstory)
