Wave Echo Cave

Several thousand years ago, a pact was made between a clan of gnomes and dwarves which became known as the Phandelver Pact. Together they mined the magically rich ores within Wave Echo Cave. Human spellcasters from nearby Taft (where Snowfals  now stands) joined forces with them and together they combined their collective skills to create a forge to craft magical items dubbed the Forge of Spells. Everything came to an abrupt end when orcs, craving magical treasures, sieged Taft and the Wave Echo Cave mine. The battle destroyed Taft and much of the mine as well, causing various cave-ins throughout. Very few survived the conflict to relate the tale. The Forge of Spells became legend and the entrance to Wave Echo Cave was lost.   Flash-forward to present day, the Rockseeker brothers, intent in finding and reopening this now-fabled mine, manage to locate the cave. Their activity was never a secret. A nefarious villain, a Dragonsoul in the Keepers of the Hoard , known as Frulam Mondath, has been watching and waiting for the dwarves to uncover this location. Frulam desires to harness the Forge of Spells for her own purposes and has rallied bandit gangs and kobold tribes from within the region to aid her in this mission.   Once the PCs have liberated the mine, they may wish to utilize in the future. Options include:
  • Take up residence in the mine, living in the section devoted for the visiting mages, or in one of the barracks chambers, and use it as a base of operations.
  • Go on a quest to find a dwarven clan willing (and able) to relocate to the mine and once again have dwarven clansmen walking its long abandoned walls.
  • Find people to work and operate the mine and have the party collect a piece of the action for liberating it.
  • Use the mine as a potential source of precious metals or rare resources the party can use to craft magic weapons, armor or other items as they continue their quests/adventures.
The Restored Mine contains:   Main Entry – At the south of the map, the tunnel has been excavated and stairs built leading up and out to the old, original mine entrance.   Southern Barracks – Near the main entrance, a small barracks houses some dwarven guards.   Weighing Chamber – Across from the southern barracks, a chamber designed to weigh ore, pay out coin to the miners, record transactions and move the ore to smelting has been erected.   Southwest Entry – The tunnel and cavern that eventually linked into the Lost Mines has been converted into a secondary entry, with a lift, staircase and guard station set up to handle visitors, imports and exports.   Dwarven Fungi Farm – The toxic fungi was eliminated and fresh, healthy fungus grown with the aid of a bit of magic, to now provide the colony with a good source of daily nutrients, in addition to the goods they receive from trade.   Central Barracks – North of the main entry, a small barracks houses some dwarven guards.   Dwarven Kitchen & Storage – East of the Central Barracks lay the kitchen & storage for the mining colony.   Starry Cavern & Visitor Suites – In the starry cavern, the building housing visitor accommodations has been refurbished and can now house almost 10 visitors.   Forge of Spells – The famous Forge of Spells has been returned to its former glory, with a small library, work tables and storage room (north) added.   Great Feasting Hall – Cleared of the original carnage, this hall now contains room for over 50 people for celebrations, feasts and gatherings.   Smelting Chamber – With a new riverbed hewn to bring water (again) to the Smelting Room, the Waterwheel is back in action and pumping the bellows to smelt fresh ore brought from the mine.   Northern Barracks – West of the Smelting Chamber, a small barracks houses some dwarven guards.   Natural Areas – Several natural chambers created by the earthquake remain open, but now have proper lighting, bridges and equipment to navigate.   Dwarven Temple & Chambers – the once proud temple has been restored, as have been the adjoining chambers, which now house a small group of guards and the head priest.
