According to the scriptures, perseverance and spirit measure above all else in winning the favor of a Saint in life. Alas, if only the respect of mortals could be won as easily. For Aethelryn, daughter of Othric Whiteblade, no number of victories on the sparring fields or successful hunts has been sufficient to win her father's favor; a devoted follower of Saint Alaunus the Dawnbringer and Saint Leoric the Sovereign, he refuses to let his daughter onto the battlefield, much less name her as his tanist. Years of denial have only increased Aethelryn's determination to prove herself, however, and her chance might soon be upon her. Othric's attempt to marry her off to a Gwynnish prince ended abruptly when he died of a sudden illness, and her brother Othrym has been spending less and less time at the battlefront of late, leading some in Othric's court to look to her as a potential challenger for the throne...
