Government

Penningham is a self-sufficient settlement which acts independently of the province's capital. However, the people who live here struggle with the weight of the Grand Vizier's expectation of those who live here and fear the repercussions should they not meet them.
While no official leader is appointed, the resident druid Shava Baeldeth oversees all matters related to crop growth, livestock and protection.

Industry & Trade

Penningham's primary function as a settlement is the production of crops and livestock for Auchendow. As a result, a plethora of fruit, vegetables, and meat is traded from the settlement. Most of this goes directly to Auchendow's Market Square, however occasionally people from Finstow and Portstoke will visit directly.
The Settlement also has a windmill which produces flour which, again, is traded primarily in Auchendow.

Assets

Aside from the various crops and animals found around the settlement, Peningham houses a large store which contains surplus food which is preserved in the event it should be needed.

History

Penningham was established shortly after the founding of Auchendow. Some who did not wish to live under the rule of the Grand Vizier but had no home to return decided to make their own settlement in the province.
At the same time, with the need for crops and livestock for the new inhabitants of Auchendow, the ruler of the time (Marrake II) tricked the druid Shava, who at the time was living in The Menagerie Hills and had been leading the fight against the elemental forces in the area, into donning a necklace which put her magically under the royal family's command. With the druid acquired, Marrake II sent her to the developing settlement and task her with making the land fertile.
Since then, Shava and the local people have cultivated the land in service of the Grand Vizier. None who live here know the true history of Shava and the cruel trick which was played on her.

Architecture

All building are made of stone, with very little timber being used. The settlement itself is very small and the majority of the surrounding land is used for agriculture. Outside of the settlement, a small windmill sits on a small hill. All of the buildings resemble those found in Auchendow as the stone is sourced from the same mines.

Geography

Penningham is built upon a large mesa in the shadow of Mt. Brand. The surface of the mesa is covered with lush grass and trees, thanks to Shava's magic. On the north-western edge of the mesa, lava from Mt. Brand pools at the base and singes the grass on this edge. The Cinder Peaks spread from here to surround the mesa on the western and southern edges while the north-eastern side overlooks the vast expanse of wasteland which dominates the province.
The majority of the mesa is covered with the various crops grown by the settlement, however the south-western potion is walled off for the purposes of livestock. Finally, the north of the mesa houses a small woodland area where Shava resides.
