The Order of the Wildfire

Description

The Order of the Wildfire is a group of selected individuals who process control over elemental, druid magic bestowed onto them by Pelor. Once they acquire their powers, they set out into the world to try and make a positive difference to those they meet, all the while following the tenets of The Dawnfather.   Members of the order are famed across Concordia for their actions and the impact they have had on the continent. Culture

Admission. Potential members of the order are selected from the village of Finstow in the Auchendow Province during childhood. During their schooling and young-adult life, they are taught about Pelor's tenets and the power of the elemental plane of fire (given the province's history with the plane). Those who show the most devotion and promise are then shortlisted and presented to the village's council, who then choose the next memebr of the order from among this list.   Once an individual is chosen, they are taken the The Crucible of Life on Peldies 19th High Sun (the same day as The Solar Festival). There Pelor, The Dawnfather bestows the elemental power of the wildfire into its new recipient, forever binding them to the order.

History

Pelor, god of the sun and agriculture, knows his most devout followers on Concordia to be the residents of Finstow. Their efforts in attempting to restore the Auchendow province have not gone unnoticed by him. As such, when Pelor finds himself in need of a champion, he turns to them.   Beginning 100 years ago, Pelor constructed a ritual for bestowing powers onto his chosen champions, powers he would not normally be able to grant, but he believed necessary to harness where possible for the good of Concordia. It would involve the chosen champion journeying to The Crucible of Fire at the point where the portal to the elemental plane of fire there was at it’s most open and volatile. Pelor observed that elementals like the ones on the surface of the lava here were in fact manifested pieces of the magic from their respective planes, with larger elementals containing more of this raw magic within themselves than smaller ones. With the portal this open, some of the largest and most powerful elemental were now able to pass through. From here, Pelor was able to exact his will upon one of these elementals, bestowing divine magic onto it and commanding it to bond with the chosen champion, by entering their body and fusing with their soul. As this happens, Pelor’s divine magic and much of the raw magic from within the elemental are able to become a part of the champion and a druid of Pelor, fused with the magic of the elemental plane of fire, can be created. The elemental is not destroyed in this process, but leaves the body and goes on to serve the new druid, now much smaller and weaker than it was before having passed on much of it’s magic, taking on the form of a creature important to that champion. This process also turns the champion into a fire genasi.   This ritual is able to happen once every 10 years and has been a part of Finstow’s culture since Pelor first appeared before the council and helped them in choosing the first champion in the year 400. These days, the champion is chosen by the members of the council from those who have shown drive and dedication in exacting the tennets of Pelor.   It is tradition within Finstow that once the new champion has been gifted their powers, they begin their journey immediately. Most do not return to the village after this event, however those who live long enough to retire from adventuring have been known to return, becoming honorary members of the council and helping to train the next potential champions.   Across Concordia, the exploits of these chosen few have been told in story and song and they have become known by those who have heard of them as ‘The Men and Women of the Wildfire’.
