Festine Fortress
the Town of Festine
Festine Fortress is a cliffside coastal town on the north side of Oberun's Islein Tobia's Gulf. Named after a Novya fortress that once stop at the tip of the rocky outcropping that part of the town is built on, Festine long stood as an outpost for Novyum control of the region. With the decline of the United Kingdoms of Novyum and an independent Tinjir the fortress fell out of use and in disrepair for generations. The current town was built up with the birth of the nation of Toemanshire. The old fortress' foundations and stones used in building the town.
When first built is stood as more of a luxury estate for the kings of Toemanshire. A lighthouse was built at the peak of the outcropping, more for status than use and a town quickly grow up around the cove Festine was built on. Nobles invested in estates to be closer to the king. Their servants needed homes. Fishermen found the waters off Oberun's' Isle pristine for fishing. The kings of Toemanshire eventually lost interest in their estates on the island, and with them their noble entourage. The town remained, however. Many of its residents had lived in Festine Fortress a generation or more at that point. The town was largely forgotten save for the lighthouse that marked the northern point of Toemanshire, and a sign for ships that they neared the southern kingdom of the Farlands.
In the orc invasion of Toemanshire, Oberun's Isle was occupied as well. Undefended the people of Festine Fortress did never even try to fight. An act that most like saved them and their town. The orcs occupied the city, forcing the people into labor for them, but letting them continue their daily lives in their town.
Festine Fortress was a key location for King Wilhelm Alyster's attack to retain his kingdom. Advance forces invaded and freed Festine from orc occupation, establishing a beachhead for the king's fleet to gather before the mainland assault.
