High Seat Castle
Midland Castle
High Seat Castle, sometimes called Midland Castle or Ron Castle, was the seat of power for the dukes of the Duchy of Ron in the Kingdom of Toemanshire. A small town, made up primarily of the castles staff, once lay to the north.
The castle was put under siege by the Orc horde that invaded and conquered Toemanshire. The town was looted and destroyed within days of the orc arrival, but the castle held for two years. High Sea finally fell to the invaders when the defenders could no longer resist, malnourished and weakened from endlessly fighting. The orcs, in raged by the long siege burned everything they could within the castle.Today, much of the castle stone walls remain, though its interiors have been gutted by fire. Like most of the kingdom's infrastructure, plans to rebuild the castle have been suggested. It is currently a low priority project over stabilizing the kingdom first.
For the native Lhakamen of Toemanshire, High Seat is both the highlight of the kingdom's resistance to the invaders, as well as their lowest deeds. When the orc arrived many of those in the outside town were left to their fate. The castle guards refused to open the gates to let the weak in, knowing they could be a liability in a drawn-out siege. Some guards even taking a step farther, shooting arrows into the refugees arriving as a "mercy" over what the orc would do to them. These killings continued over the two-year siege. The defenders wounded to severely and the sick were often killed to save the dwindling supplies for those still strong enough to hold the castle.
