Elk spent the beginning of his childhood raised in the castle of The Hylands, but when he was nine his mother sent him to Earth with his younger siblings to protect them from the impending threat of King Julen as he turned his eye toward Arken.
Elk and his younger siblings were raised in the U.S. by Rye and Brendon Cooper, where Elk became interested in football. In his senior year of high school he became the captain of his football team and started dating his best friend, Jenna, but that only lasted a few months before he and his siblings were summoned back to Arken to be reunited with their family.
Thrust back into a world he barely remembered, Elk was skeptical to say the least, and took a while to readjust. Besides his father, Lorcan, Crimson Arun and her sister Scarlet helped him get reacquainted with The Hylands and both he and his siblings became good friends with the girls.
A year after being brought back to Arken, Lorcan, his four youngest children, and the Aruns went on a trip to Remera to aid them against Caeli, one of their four Tetra who had grown restless from their relegation to a small domain within Remera. On that trip they made a critical discovery. Show Spoiler

History

When the Elfbournes return to The Hylands, Twilight and Elk have an interesting relationship. Twilight is used to being an only child, at that point, but wants to connect with her younger siblings and be a role model for them, while Elk is used to being the oldest and taking care of his younger siblings. There's no tension between Twilight and Elk, since Twilight often stands back and lets him continue to lead to avoid any conflict, but Twilight finds it difficult to find where she fits in with her siblings. She and Elk end up getting along just fine, but Twilight never feels completely comfortable with him as she tries to balance their ages with their roles.
