Personal history
Halder was born the fourth child of Hawthorne and Issabelle Eckard, Lord and Lady of Peren. He was raised with the manners and nobility of a proper lord, but allowed to have a mostly normal childhood with his siblings. The group of siblings--seven, all told--enjoyed running around the gardens of Ivybrook Manor, reading in the expansive library, and telling each other stories in the warm living room as the firelight dimmed.
Always fascinated with stories of daring knights and venomous dragons, it wasn't hard for Halder to decide to pursue storytelling. Further experimentation in poetry and music refined that idea into a plan to become a minstrel. By the time Halder was about eleven, he was the primary storyteller in his family's nightly story exchange. He thrived on their smiles and applause, content in the knowledge that his gifts were making them happy.
At age 15, he started entertaining in local inns and refining his skills further, and by 17 he's a local fixture.
Education
Halder was privately tutored with his siblings in general studies, and had an additional tutor for the lute. He learned storytelling and poetry on his own, spending copious amounts of time in the Ivybrook Manor library.
Employment
He's a minstrel in Peren, frequenting various inns and providing free entertainment. He doesn't charge yet, since he's still living at Ivybrook Manor and doesn't need to, but he gets tips and uses them to buy more books or take his lute for a tune-up when it needs it.

Halder looks up to his oldest brother Horace almost as much as he looks up to his father. He admires Horace's bravery, and a skill with the sword that Halder is conspicuously lacking, as well as his nobility and quiet support of his siblings when they need it.
Halder goes to Hunter when he needs to laugh or unwind. When they were younger, Hunter would often rope Halder into helping him pull pranks or otherwise get into trouble.
Hadley, Halder's older sister, is the only one who comes close to matching him in a sprint. Until Halder's time became more dedicated to performing at inns, he and Hadley would race all the time to see who was the faster sprinter. Despite their rivalry--or perhaps because of it--they managed to be fairly close, though Hadley's blustering personality put a bit of a damper on their relationship.
Though Halder doesn't understand Hayden's interest in genealogy, the two are quite close. Halder appreciates the chance he has with Hayden to be the one being looked up to instead of the one looking up. He enjoys talking to Hayden and giving what advice he can (even when that advice is "You should go talk to dad"). When something's up with Hayden, Halder's always the first to notice.
Harper is a little ball of energy, and she often asks Halder to come run around in the garden with her and Holland, or go on a secret mission to retrieve cookies from the kitchen. She looks up to Halder with adoration, and Halder tries his best to live up to her lofty view of him and be the best older brother he can be.
Holland often tags along with Harper and her antics, but he's often napping when Halder's home, and they don't do as much together as Halder would like. Halder savors the time he has with Holland, aware of the fact that when he becomes an adult he'll start traveling and won't see his little brother nearly as much.
