The Whispering Madness is a localized phenomena, only happening to creatures who venture into the Whispering Wood. It often subsides once creatures leave the vicinity of the Wood. Although, once affected they are more likely to succumb to it in the future.

Causes

the Whispering Wood is home to angry ghosts and spirits left over from the Era of the Long Lived. They whisper all of the unfortunate creature's greatest fears and how that creature will descend into madness.

Prognosis

If creatures leave the vicinity of the Whispering Wood fairly quickly they will make a full recovery. If the creature does not leave in time, they may never recover, the mental damage is often too severe.
