Whispering Wood
The Whispering Wood gets its name because while traveling through it people start to hear voices in their head, whispering at them. If one stays in this forest for too long, they will surely go insane.
Geography
This is a flat forest dominated by oak trees. The trees are bright green in the spring and summer, vibrant shades of yellow and red in the fall, and bare in the winter. It is located on the southern part of Melidon Lake and east of the Spine of the World. The Kingdom of Etheo is surrounded on three sides by the Whispering Wood.
Ecosystem
The only organisms, aside from the ghosts and spirits, who can live in the Whispering Wood are plant and fungi species. Because of this, aside from the strange whispering, the wood lacks the normal liveliness and sounds that are usually associated with such ecosystems. It is always too quiet and it just sounds wrong, and then the whispering starts.
Since the wood is void of most creatures the plant life has had an opportunity to run wild. The wood is home to many strange trees and plant life that cannot be found in any other part of the world. The diversity is astounding. It is believed that many of these plants could be used for good, unfortunately the inhabiting ghosts and spirits prevent all but the strongest and bravest from entering, and even then, most do not make it back out alive.
Ecosystem Cycles
The ghosts and spirits who live in the wood appear to be most active in the spring and summer, some think this is because they crave death and this time of year is a time of birth and growth.
Localized Phenomena
This forest is home to a variety of ghosts. A remnant of the Era of the Long Lived the creatures that call this place home are angry and sometimes violent. They prefer to hunt prey, any living non-plant creature that wanders in the wood, by whispering to that creature. They whisper all of your greatest fears, soon the unfortunate creature cannot take it any more and that is when they strike. Devouring the creature whole, bones and all. It takes quite a bit of fortitude to keep ones wits about them while traveling through the woods.
