Vicar
The role of vicar is that of the senior cleric to a particular deity in a halfling community. In those places who venerate only a single god or goddess, the vicarage is the highest ecclesiastical role. In towns with multiple gods there are multiple vicars - one per deity - and an administrator known as a Beadle.
Vicars play a much more expansive role than merely hosting services and religious instruction, however. It nearly goes without saying that each vicar has a "circuit" in their community, visiting the houses of parishioners (and, indeed, any interested parties) for tea at least once per month. The visits may, at the discretion of the homeowner, be a pro forma casual visit, or a salon of sorts with guests, sweets, and formal attire. These "garden parties" are often hosted by well-to-do halflings for the benefit of their guests.
It is customary for vicars to offer a "blessing" during visits in the month of their deity's holy day. These blessings are in the form of a hearty dish of mutton, pork, or fish brought to the parishioner's home. It may be shared during the visit, or saved for later by the homeowner, but the gift represents the spiritual sustenance offered by the church.
