Wulvenscar (wool-ven-skar)
Defender of the Free People
The Wulvenscar clan is a tribal autonomous state located within the Freelands. The group seeks to preserve the peace and independence of those who choose to live not under the large countries and coalitions of the united civilizations. The tribe has safeguarded the lands as far back as the Era of Arcana. They are known as defenders or protectors of communities who cannot properly fend for themselves.
Structure
The clan is first and foremost headed by the chieftain, who oversees and delegates the tasks and missions to the tribal chiefs; they are also selected as the clan's wisest and strongest member. Tribal chiefs are beholden to the clan's chieftain and lead their own small groups called tribes. They travel across the plane as nomadic wanderers to find people needing their aid and subsequently recruit them to their cause.
Culture
The philosophy of the Wulvenscar clan is 'passion tempered by wisdom is our strength.' They are a group of monks that believe in the valor of battle and devotion to keeping the free people from subjugation. The members of this clan have been known to be monastic and nomadic, creating many temporary settlements across Alluvia and spreading the word of their cause to those who would listen. The first members of this clan were monks who formed during the Era of Arcana and have passed down their traditions to the current disciples. But most of their people are those who are weary, broken souls who wander aimlessly and have unresolved personal demons they contend with. The clan accepts all and believes in second chances.
Tenets
- Never hurt the weak and innocent.
- Do not harm a defenseless opponent.
While the Wulvenscar monks are fierce fighters practicing martial arts, they abide by a strict code of honor in combat. When an opponent has ceded defeat or is physically unable to fight, there is no point in harming them further.
- Only use force when necessary.
Generally, it would be assumed that a clan that trains in martial arts would use force to resolve conflicts. However, this is far from the case with the Wulvenscar. Whenever possible, they choose the path of non-violence. Not everything can or must be resolved with violence.
- Only kill when there is no other option.
While they preach and spread the word of compassion and acceptance, the Wulvenscar are foremost a force of protection for the greater good of their community. The group has been known to end another's life when push comes to shove. Alas, it is accepted as one of the bleakest axioms of reality. In the most desperate times, some conflicts can only end in death.
- Give back to those that have need of it.
The Wulvenscar, while seen as a savage and uncivilized clan, is ripe with wealth in the form of natural resources such as food, water, and prosperous settlements. The main virtue the Wulvenscar wish to propagate is charity, compassion, and temperance. Whenever possible, roaming tribes seek to find impoverished communities and help in whatever way they can.
That being said, the clan is quite wary of those who come from the major civilizations of the Concord. They do not take kindly to those that would use their land for expansion and exploitation. They only wish for peace between the Concord and their lands and for them to respect the decision of the people who do not wish to be under the rule of a powerful civilization.
Way of Living
While there is a stigma towards them being a 'savage clan of the wilds,' the people of the clan are quite intelligent and progressive. In the clan, there is value in the importance of free expression of oneself; this encompasses themes like sexuality and gender identity. The people accept those of any race, gender, sexuality, creed, or religious belief; as long as their being does not interfere with the main agenda of the clan. The clan is quite known for being the haven of lost people, as most of its inhabitants were formerly castaways, exiled pariahs, war refugees, criminals, and wanderers who feel like they have no place in the world.
The clan's inhabitants, who do not become monks, live quite a simple life. They are quite adherent to the environment around them and live nomadic, hermit-like lives. They live off the land and cultivate life wherever they can. Sometimes they stay in developed villages allied with the Wulvenscar when they travel, but they always seek to leave a place better than they were already and then move to the next location that requires their aid. The tribespeople wears ethnic robes and draperies of various textures, patterns, and colors and engages in activities like pottery, farming, hunting, taming wild creatures, and bartering with other communities.
Public Agenda
"So... you'll finally be able to see the world, Albedo. I'm excited to see where this new life will take you. You'll meet a lot of people, see wondrous places, and discover new things about yourself. But in all of that excitement, I hope you'll never forget one thing: always leave things better than you found it."
The Wulvenscar clan's main agenda is the development of small, free communities within the uncivilized borders across Alluvia. They believe in a stronger world if more independent communities stand strong on their own without dependency on other foreign powers. This is why the clan is largely nomadic, seeking to go out into the world and help communities redevelop their societies by teaching them self-defense, creating self-sustaining food sources based on the natural resources of their environment, as well as overall good governance of their authority's hierarchical structures.
The Wulvenscar clan is widely known throughout the Freelands as the 'defenders of the Free People.'—a title they've carried throughout their first formation during the ancient times of the Era of Arcana. It is said that the Wulvenscar clan was formed through various ancient tribal ethnic groups in the early millennia that banded together to fight against clans that would seek to pillage and destroy others instead of developing and cultivating their lands. As time grew and the other clans slowly formed the great civilizations today, the Wulvenscar still maintains its independent policy against full subordination to large powers. Small communities like villages and hamlets still exist that are remnants of old, weaker ethnic groups that were not invited to form great powers. These are largely ostracized groups whose ancestral lands are slowly being used to expand the territories of other abundant civilizations.
The reason that the Concord or other neighboring countries could not expand within the Freelands was because of the existence of the Wulvenscar clan. The tribe has grown exponentially, covering all corners of Alluvia with their influence. They have also allied with powerful barbarian clans of old, namely the Drakenfang clan, who also wields immense military strength, despite not being a world power.
To avoid being an encompassing world power itself, the clan has pledged to the communities of the Freelands that they would not be the overseers of their communities; only there to help them whenever they had needs and to keep the peace. The Wulvenscar's presence is why communities in the Freelands have not gone to war over desires of expansion. The Wulvenscar keeps such ambitions in check while also allowing the communities a fair and peaceful autonomy.
Assets
Infantry
The clan, while being underestimated as just another savage tribe, has tribespeople large enough to constitute an independent state. Across all of Alluvia, there exists a tribe of Wulvenscar monks that roam to find impoverished communities in need of help. Most of the tribespeople are trained in martial arts and have some knowledge of warfare. The clan's military strength is known to go toe-to-toe with even the wealthiest nations when their lands are trampled upon, as they use their knowledge of the area via guerrilla warfare to drive invaders out of their lands.
The clan also possesses a sizable amount of magic users. The Concord describes them as dangerous apostates akin to the Zoraeli sorcerers and druids and are a potential threat to the safety of the realm.
Natural Resources
Being a settlement that both has permanent settlements and has nomadic tribes, the Wulvenscar has a diverse assortment of resources. The forests of the Freelands are ripe and fertile due to their honest and devoted cultivation of communities that surround them. The Wulvenscar need not watch over the development of the land themselves because they have seeded the knowledge to the communities that benefit from it, and they take care of the land themselves.
The clan has an abundance of natural resources from wood, hunted game, various bodies of water that are fishing grounds, and ample and fertile farmland to grow crops and orchards. Truly, the Freelands are a place untainted by worldly progress, which is why so many vie for control of the area. They also have some unique resources, like crops from other lands, that they bring back and recultivate into their lands due to their nomadic wandering.
Base of Operations
The Wulvenscar has built a connection of communities like small villages and hamlets, but their most important asset is their fortress and base of operations—Sumara Summit. It is a fortress built on top of the Sumara mountain range, on the highest peak specifically. This is where monks go to train for their admission within the clan and where all tribal chiefs return for meetings and rest. The chieftain also resides in the Sumara Summit, where it is said they guard an ancient artifact that was lost to time.

Shaky
The Wulvenscar and Drakenfang clans used to be closely allied, until the Drakenfang clan separated to pursue ambitions of conquest. While the Wulvenscar have allowed them to take the path of war, they still continue to bring them back into a more peaceful state. The ongoing peace talks have been unsuccessful so far, but the mutual respect between the two parties still linger.
Unwanted
As the Concord seeks to unify more communities in their proximity, especially those in the Freelands, the Wulvenscar have made their stance clear that these unaffiliated communities deserve to stay independent. The Concord has dismissed their pleas with the premise that Wulvenscar is a dangerous savage clan and is unwanted within Concord territories. The Wulvenscar clan takes care not to trespass on Concord territory as they try to avoid sparking a potential war against a powerful coalition; so they merely keep within the outside borders.
Adversarial
The Wulvenscar have recently been thwarting expansion of Crowhaven syndicates throughout the Freelands and defending weaker, ostracized communities from being exploited by said groups. The tribal defenders have also been in pacts with autonomous city-states and have been rooting out agents of Crowhaven from within their underbellies.
