Government

The City and its affairs are overseen by Malcanthet herself, the laws are enforced by her Loyal Children. When Nariel reigned alongside her, the Archangel was given full control of running the city and Malcanthet deffered to her.
Many of Nariel's changes remain in effect, some 70,000 years after she was taken from her dark home.

Infrastructure

The city is illuminated by Demonflames within towers that arise over the city, providing a fascimile of Purple Moonlight that sets an otherworldly glow to the buildings.

History

The city is a sprawling metropolis, smaller in scale than the city of Brass, but with far more citizenry. Reaching the Midnight Isles and Alushinyrra is a simple matter for those capable of Planar Travel and it is common for dark dealings and agreements to be made in its dark alleys and taverns. Queen Malcanthet resides within her Palace at the heart of the city itself. The Palace is an impossible structure, as large as a mountain and filled with countless rooms that are decorated with only the most lavish and rarest of articles.
The city was relativley small, nary more than a million people, before the arrival of Archangel Nariel. Malcanthet had been an uncontrollably greedy, selfish and destructive creature until she captured the beautiful Angel, and once Nariel stood at her side, Malcanthet underwent a noticeable change. She showed care for those beneath her, if only in the sense that they were a means of protection for her, and she began to truly organize the city and cultivate it into more than a cluster of pleasure houses and alchemical stimulant labs. Under the rule of Nariel and Malcanthet the city blossomed and Malcanthet became the first of the Demon Lords to truly earn the loyalty of those within her realm.
When Nariel was taken away, many of the peoples within the city wished to march upon Mount Celestia to reclaim their Queen. Though it pained her to be seperated from Nariel, Malcanthet understood that Nariel would not wish her to throw lives away for this cause and so she quelled the rage of her people and they have prepared the realm for Millenia, knowing one day that their Queen will return. A Temple has been dedicated to Nariel within the city and some have questioned whether they could ascend the Archangel to Divinity with enough of a following, but Malcanthet has dismissed this idea as Nariel had no desire for such power or worship.

Climate

The Midnight Isles are shrouded in eternal night and the city is surrounded by constant swirling clouds. It is acceptable enough to most creatures and is habitable for most races.
