The Winter Orchestrator

Sir Endra Yule (a.k.a. The Winter Orchestrator)

The Winter Orchestrator is The Elder Goat's younger half-brother. An oft-misunderstood character, the Winter Orchestrator is responsible for bringing in the cold and snowy weather that sweep across Altairus in the winter months.

He was also the unfortunate antagonist in the Winter Solstice special The Fluffer Butters in the Land Without Cheers, where he is cast as a cold and miserable being intent on kidnapping the Fluffer Butters and reforging them into his minions.

Physical Description

Body Features

The Winter Orchestrator has a lean frame that is covered in thick layers of cloth. He is only an inch shorter than his brother, and his goat-like appearance also invokes Baphomet. Unlike the Elder Goat, who has black fur and golden hooves, the Winter Orchestrator has white fur and silver hooves, representing his connection to the cold and snow.

The Winter Orchestrator's horns are, like the Elder Goat's horns, bleached blue from ice exposure. They have the appearance of a ram's horns with a diabolical spike at the end.

Facial Features

The Winter Orchestrator possesses a white beard that is even longer than that of the Elder Goat. His eyes glow an icy blue and resemble those of a goat.

Special abilities

The Winter Orchestrator has control over ice and snow. His powers on their own are rather small, so he enlists the help of his machines to bring winter to Altairus every year.

Though he doesn't sing in front of other faeries, his singing voice has the power to calm people and induce contentment in them when they hear it. There have even been rumors that it can heal the sick. Most often, he sings when he is working at his machines to bring winter to Altairus.

Apparel & Accessories

The Winter Orchestrator is clothed in frosty blue pelts that shield him from the cold. His face is partially obscured by a hood, making him even more intimidating to those who meet him.

Specialized Equipment

The Winter Orchestrator's castle is filled top to bottom with magical machines that enhance their creator's powers. Each machine has a specific purpose; the Winter Orchestrator first turns on a machine that cools down the weather in Altairus. Then he uses another machine to turn the rain into snow. And so on and so forth. Through his careful conduction of the machines' tasks, he orchestrates the arrival of winter in Altairus, hence his title.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Sir Endra Yule, or the Winter Orchestrator, was born on the ides of January in the year 1201 G.E. Not long after his brother Atticus (the Elder Goat) began his mission of protecting the Winter Solstice Spirit, Endra took up residence on a peninsula due north of Yule City, just east of Mt. Gloom. It is here where he built his castle, which houses an impressive array of machinery designed to cool down the planet and turn the rain and sleet to snow and flurries. He takes to this task every year, starting around the Autumnal Equinox and finally turning them all off around the Vernal Equinox.

Intellectual Characteristics

The Winter Orchestrator was smart enough to build all the machines he uses to usher in winter himself. These machines have operated for hundreds of years without failure.

Morality & Philosophy

While his brother's morals are all about preserving the Winter Solstice Spirit, the Winter Orchestrator is all about the importance of balance in nature and in life. The harsh snows and blizzards he ushers in provide the balancing factor to the carefree joviality his brother is responsible for bringing. This is all part of maintaining the balance of Altairus's magic.

Taboos

The Winter Orchestrator is not as uncomfortable with people admitting they don't like the Winter Solstice as his brother is. One thing he does dislike, though, is when people misunderstand the importance of the winter season and declare that it is not necessary.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

While the Elder Goat is concerned with preserving the Winter Solstice, the Winter Orchestrator works to preserve the winter season. He understands the need for balance in Altairus and is happy to take on the role of giving the trees and animals of the world a rest. He sets his machines to target the parts of the world that need the calm rest of winter each year.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

One thing you would not guess about the Winter Orchestrator is that he has a beautiful singing voice. He doesn't like to sing in front of others, but if you manage to pass by his castle just on the cusp of winter, you may hear his golden voice as he puts his machines into operation.

Personality Quirks

The Winter Orchestrator often likes to indulge in manic, evil-sounding cackling. This is one of the many reasons why Altairians and Earth-dwellers alike find him hard to trust.

Another reason is his tendency to refer to things he likes as "horrible" and "miserable" (as in, "Such a delightfully miserable day, isn't it?"). His representation in The Fluffer Butters in the Land Without Cheers keeps this trait of his, and it only serves to emphasize his evil nature in the special.

Social

Family Ties

The Winter Orchestrator is the Elder Goat's younger half-brother. He is also married to the Maiden of Summer, though they don't live together for most of the year.

Hobbies & Pets

The Winter Orchestrator has a pet moon bat named Amora. He likes to have her sit on his hand while he indulges in his manic cackling.

Speech

The Winter Orchestrator's voice has a tenor register. It is just as raspy as that of the Elder Goat and is just as prone to bleating. When he sings, it can send pleasant chills down your spine.

Like the Elder Goat, the Winter Orchestrator has the ability to understand and be understood in any language. He does not use this power as much as the Elder Goat, though, since he is so isolated from the rest of the world.

Character Prototype

The Winter Orchestrator's appearance is based on Baphomet. In the Winter Solstice special he stars in, The Fluffer Butters in the Land Without Cheers, he fills the role of Professor Coldheart in the short film that the special parodies, The Care Bears in the Land Without Feelings. He is also somewhat similar to the Winter Warlock in Santa Claus is Coming to Town in both name and appearance, though this was unintentional.
