Governor
Governor used to be appointed by a leader, most often king or queen to govern a certain area, but that title has been replaced with the titles like 'mayor' in most human countries. The most well-known still governing governor is the governor of Malvere, who both governs the city and the island, and is essentially a sovereign leader in their own right. That is why this article concentrates on telling about the Malverean governor.
When the nobles led the first pioneering journeys to Astaros, they quickly understood that it would be beneficial if someone would stay behind at the previously uninhabited island, so there would be a small port where all the pioneer ships could stop and stock on their route from Madovar to Astaros and back. Quickly the small and temporary encampment grew into a hamlet, then a village. And when the village kept growing and began attracting more people, it was deemed important that it would have someone trusted to take care of the village's business and people. The king of Kingdom of Shausal at the time appointed a governor for the island, but as the Kingdom was still quite newly built on the remnants of The Lausonian Empire, it didn't have much resources to actually watch after this new small settlement. Years passed and after some wars on the continent of Madovar, Malvere gained more autonomy and eventually became an self-governing area in its own right, but it managed to kept the peaceful relations to the mainland. The Governor of Malvere became the sovereign ruler of the island and its only town, which, even if smaller than some greater cities of Aberronia, is quite buzzing with commerce and people. The Governor stayed as the title used for the leader of the island.
