Defences
Yharna has never been attacked by a formal army. It's subterranean location protects it from many of the above ground threats in Stelliah. It is also the northern most city in the Kingdom of Shadows, residing underneath where the Limbin Kingdom once ruled. This prime location has kept it far removed from the frequently warring southern Kingdoms. This is not to say that they're defenseless, they have a very well trained City and Royal Guard. Some recent excavations have lead to the discovery of a new crystal imbued with powers that aren't quite magic nor psionic in nature. While very few individuals even know of its existence, this new find is VERY detrimental to biological organisms.
Most notably in terms of defense, The Four Diamonds have ordered the collapse of the major tunnelways leading into and out of Yharna. This has left many citizens and outsiders puzzled. The city certainly hasn't been under attack and by doing this it has literally destroyed its trade routes.
Industry & Trade
Yharna has a thriving mining industry, specifically focused around their luminescent gemstones. There also is a quickly growing fungus industry here, it seems an exclusive psychedelic mushroom species grows here that has potent medicinal properties.
Infrastructure
Yharna is a well established city, roughly 350 years old. The city has a unique sense of architecture as it was built upon a mining quarry. The majority of it's buildings and roads were carved straight from the rock that previously occupied the area. This gives most of it's buildings and roads this very smooth and melded aspect. The Cathedral of Rorum is carved right into the Northern most wall, technically originating from a cave-in of a mining shaft.
Districts
Yharna is a very layered and vertical city due to the layout of the original quarry. As such the city is divided into 3 districts determined by depth.
The Shimmer
The highest district, it gets it namesake from the shimmering and luminescent crystals that glow on the cave ceiling. The district is cast in a greenish blue hue. Home, to the wealthy and powerful in Yharna, the four diamonds call this district home along with other notable and distinguished individuals.
The Cathedral of Rorum, Holy Shard, Gem smiths, Sculpting Museum and the Mirror Ponds can all be found here. Conveniently placed for the wealthiest of people.
The Gray
Located in the middle of the city, this is home the vast majority of the residential living quarters, restaurants, and smiths. If you need something it can most likely be found in the Gray, it just won't be found at a pristine quality.
Notable locations include; The primary barracks, The Echo Rooms, The Dripping Caves, most Guild Halls and The Carve.
The Glooms
Yharna's deepest district, it's not intended for residential living, but a minor rockslide has forced a few hundred residents to temporarily relocate down here. As it's named this area is poorly lit, and wrought with ash and coal dust. This city thrives on its mining exports and 90% of the mining occurs from this district. it's chalky atmosphere demands people wear masks, only the hardiest of Duergar and Dwarves can breathe freely down here.
Notable locations consist of; The Mines, The Mining Guild, and The Slots.
Guilds and Factions
The Mining Guild: Lead by Prown Rock-Eater a notably rugged Duergar. He leads this guild in a very strict fashion, it is incredibly difficult to get approvals and clearances under his hand. He is however, happy to sign off on ill-advised permits in the case of friends and confidants.
The Cartographer's Guild: Lead by Ming Brrouth a somewhat timid and antisocial Myconid. The Cartographer's guild has recently vaulted into a seat of high influence in the city. With the collapsing of the major tunnels many citizens, merchants and wealthy figures have turned to the Cartographer's for safe passage either further into the caves or to the surface. The meteoric rise of this guild intended for those struck with wanderlust has landed it's Guild Master a seat on the Four Diamonds.
The Church of Night: The dominant religion of Yharna, led by Shivvah Harroh. It's most natural for a city cloaked in darkness to worship Rorum. Shivvah has been the leading priestess of Church of Night since Yharna's founding. This also means she has long been shaping the city and has comfortably sat as a member of the Four Diamonds since its inception. Shivvah in the last few years has grown to extreme prominence in Altheria as a whole. Due to Ullom Plethorn's deal with Mallith in the capital of the Kingdom of Shadows. There have been waves of decrees throughout the Kingdom of Shadows to construct monuments and statues in Mallith's honor. Most cities have hesitated, but eventually gave in. Shivvah however, is not one to abandon her god at the command of a power hungry family. Shivvah has ferociously blocked all proposals and attempts to comply with the capital. This resistance, along with the declining worship in the 5 other cities has turned Shivvah into the figure head of the entire religion of the Church of Night becoming it's Archbishop.
