Chapter 10, Session 4: Rocks Fall...

General Summary

Wait... this is stupid... I'm stupid... I shouldn't do this...
  • The Crowd's jeers force Olympia into a state of self conscious embarrassment.
Persicorum continued their Elementa match (with updated rules on reflection from last session) and gradually came to dominate the other team utilising Olympia and Ez's control of the field and mixing that with Kodo, Mimsi and Anastasia skill in striking to assert their dominance over the dragonborn team they were facing with Kodo scoring twice to establish their victory; after that point the party spoke to the other team and were congratulated for their efforts with the other team good naturedly congratulating Persicorum for the dominant victory.   However, during the celebrations, the stadium was shook as, after members of Persicorum spied several people in the crowd staring at them with confused and dazed expressions (including a one-armed Gell who took Thordak's attention immediately), they watched as the wands fired off shots that ignited the top of the stadium and caused it to explode, forming several cavernous holes and making rubble fall onto the stadium and across the grounds.    From there, the party watched as, despite it being a blue and cloudless day, it started to rain heavily and a pair of lidded eyes formed in the sky as a large and powerfully built orc (Merc ) commanded the Utrunks at his disposal to make sure 'no man, woman or child gets left behind!' as dozens of strange undead creatures suspended in the air descended onto the stadium and began to cleave and tear through the fans in the grounds.    The party, immediately in a state of readiness, began to split up: with Thordak breaking off to chase down Gell and the other wand wielders who had begun to evacuate, Fen (pushed by an otherworldly need) teleported to protect Xan Prayerkeep, Ez teleported to protect Lord Alastair and Olympia and Anastasia stayed in the main stadium to try and save the crowds.   As this was happening, Persicorum overheard a barked order and saw as Asharra Zenkei rallied the other Elementa teams and took them to Persicorum explaining that, personal feelings aside, she knew who to trust in life or death situations. With that, Kodo and Mimsi took Asharra with them to the roof of the stadium to deal with Merc and the orc chanters on the roof whilst the rest of the elementa teams stayed behind to help protect the stadium and the masses at Olympia and Anastasia's command.    The party, thus, flew into action and, for my own sanity, I will record each group in sections in a bullet point list below:
  • Olympia and Anastasia were kept exceptionally busy as dozens of the Horde Puppets dropped into the stadium and cleaved and tore through the fans in the stands; Olympia targeted and heavily damaged one of the groups before they responded in kind to her and Anastasia targeted another group but they pair were powerless to stop the other groups cleaving through many of the fans, every one that died, strangely, glowed with a silver light and a sliver of their energy left their body and shot up to the sky. They continued to battle and defeat the Horde Puppets before Olympia heard a collosal smashing sound and saw as the Orc leader, Merc, had fallen into their stadium in a stunned but still VERY much fighting state.
  • Fen and Ez found the nobles galleries where the notably people included several nobles, Sindarae Pollet, Leora Pollet, Xan Prayerkeep, Lord Alastair and the Pollet's two sons. Fen and Ez flew to the defence of the nobles with Fen utilising his new blade to counterspell and dominate his foes as Ez used a tidal wave and his healing chalice form to protect the injured nobility. Xan eventually was able to summon his Grimoires to his side and Fen felt as Xan summoned a cloud of magic that masked the school they were using (allowing him to cast Aist Magic) before they used a 9th level spell to eviscerate one of the Horde Puppets in front of them. After that, they asked Fen and Ez to 'clean up this mess' before teleporting away with the nobility. Fen and Ez were successful in protecting the nobility. However, before the nobles escaped, Lord Alastair was struck and nearly killed by one of the puppets which enraged Ez and led to him stone shaping a hole underneath the orc chanter in the gallery and dropping him into the stadium below where Ez then flew down to finish him off and assist Olympia and Anastasia.
  • Kodo, Mimsi and Asharra managed to get onto the roof where Merc accepted Kodo's challenge to a fight (with Kodo drawing on his past with barbarian groups to engage the orc) but he also, notably, told the other orc chanters to ensure Mimsi was captured as she was 'needed'. Asharra, in that moment, took steps to deliberately target the other orcs and protect Mimsi whilst Kodo engaged with Merc. The monks started dispatching the other orcs with real efficiency; however, Kodo was badly damaged by Merc as the orc went into a rage and brutally attacked Kodo 3 times: nearly knocking him unconscious in the process. However, in the heat of battle, Kodo took advantage of the orc over-reaching and struck a pressure point to stun him before Mimsi saw an opening for her and, in the moment that Merc was stunned, she switched her position with Kodo and used her pointy stick to shove him off of the stadium roof where he took a heavy fall into the elementa stadium. The other chanters continued to attack Mimsi with damaging condition spells but she began to work through them with a hasted Asharra in support.
With things still in the balance, combat will continue next session!
