Barony of Redon

Structure

The Barony is something of an anamoly in Letha, as its central location has led it to be considered part of the Counties of Aleth, Gwened, Naoned and Roazhon, with each claiming corners of the remote Barony. For the most part, the Barony is left to its own devices to rule itself. The only settlement of any real note in regional affairs is Greenport, the Seat of the Barony.

History

Redon had long been a quiet wilderness until the Reign of King Nevenoe I, who supported the construction of an abbey on the site to strengthen his power in the region, countering the political power of the Arch-Perfect of Threetower . Its position along the Gwilen, and its unique proximity to the three Ducal Cities allowed the abbey and the surrounding town to grow, building a rampart wall around the settlement.

Territories

Redon is located in the Ar Goat Armorica, a landbound region without access to the sea. Its Southern Border, along the Don River, is deep within Goat C'havr (Ogre's Forest), which takes up most of the Barony. Across the Don are the Lordship of Mitaud and Biskonti Naoned, both vassals of the County of Naoned.   The March of La Mee, another vassal of Naoned, takes up much of the Eastern border, while the Biskonti Roazhon and the Barony of Porhoet, vassals of the County of Roazhon take up the Northeast. The Northwest and West is dominated by the Barony of Arzal, of the County of Gwened, across the Av River.

Trade & Transport

Despite its location in the Interior, Redon is navigable by ocean-going vessels, its sheltered location and access to lumber making it a hub of ship-building and salt distribution.

Gazetteer
The town of Greenport is the Seat of the Barony and the largest settlement in the region. It sits at the confluence of the Oud and Gwilen Rivers, almost equidistant from the cities of Gwened, Naoned and Roazhon.   The majority of the region, especially in the South, is taken up by Ogre's Forest. The North is dominated by gorse-covered moorland. The area is criss-crossed with rivers, causing flooding in the Gwilen valley regularly.   The Treal Forest, in the North, is the second largest collection of Standing Stones outside of Carnag.
