The Silencer
The Silencer is a natural event that happens when the seepage from The Chaos into Amaanturis becomes too strong for the fabric of reality to hold. The distortion of the very fabric of the universe gives birth to a tornado of pure Arcanic energy, which concentrates initially on a single point, before slowly extending to a huge zone. This incredible power is caracterized by powerful winds, Arcanic thunder, and a deafening low-pitched noise, so loud that nothing else can be heard, hence its name. Ironically, despite the fact the winds and thunder are far more powerful than any normal storm, it is the noise that makes the most victims. Heard instantly from dozens of kilometers around the zone of impact, it can at least severely hurt the entire region around, and in bad cases, kill everyone on the spot. The worst case of this happened in 981 AA, when a particularly powerful Silencer destroyed the entire city of Ampstoren, in Abzazel-Maktis, and over twenty thousand people from the entire region around were killed on the spot. This is, fortunately, a very rare incident, but smaller, more minor cases happen somewhat frequently, especially when the barrier between the two dimensions is thinned by intervention from either side. A theory was made, before enough scientific research was conducted, that it is a somewhat sentient, unique entity, a Primordial or a Demon, desiring to destroy Amaanturis, but this was quickly proven wrong when scientists deducted its origin.

At the start of the event, one can observe the clouds and winds forming multiple spirals of darkness around the central pillar, where they eye of the storm is getting constantly hit by the Arcanic thunder, which makes it incredibly dangerous at the beginning, before it becomes a somewhat safe spot.
The Echo about to strike
Right before the low-pitched sound released by the Silencer, the Echo, is released, the clouds form multiple concentric clouds of smoke, while the thunder focuses the center. Once it strikes, the sound is released, and the clouds dissipate. In most cases, this ends the Silencer.
Despite this, there is clear evidence that a Silencer can be formed on purpose, and it can definitely be used as a weapon. With enough concentrated energy pushing on the border between the dimensions, the Astral In-Between gets distorted, and the ripple effect creates an artificial Silencer, leading destruction to an area that would initially seem random, but can be calculated. This was used extensively by the Western United Kingdoms against the Second Republic of the East, and to some extent, by the South Arken Empire against the Great Kingdom of Marbellian. This is widely considered to be a war crime, and the International Council takes those actions extremely seriously. Now outlawed in every country, the only instances of this being used in recent history is terrorism, or individual actions of independant forces. This has, of course, also been used by some Demons wishing to seed chaos in Amaanturis, the last one being the Great Silencer of 97 CE, sent by Mishreyn, Dragon of Chaos, unintentionally.
Overall, Silencers are widely considered to be a terrifying threat, and the sound they produce is known by everyone as a premise of the apocalypse that they leave in their wake. With how impredictable they can be, the impossibility to negate their effects, and how deadly they tend to be, the Global Academy of Sorcery has classified as an A1 threat.
