Freed from the burden of the moss

Planae played by Orange
All that surrounded Planae was grass. They seemed, strangely, lighter. They looked down at their hands, and realized they could see... skin. There was no moss, there were no wires poking in and out of their skin, nothing.   And they could see. Reaching up to touch their face, they felt skin! Clean skin! And eyes! Their horns! Hair! It was all there! They were freed from the burden of the moss, of electronic maintenance, of constant, stinging pain. They looked around wildly, was there anyone else? How could this have happened? They were free! They had to share the good news!   But all there was around them was grass. A smooth plain, interrupted only by the sky. The sun was just starting to rise. It was completely silent. They began to run, picking a direction and sticking to it, calling out for someone, anyone nearby. There had to be someone around, to acknowledge them, to celebrate. There had to be.   The grass was growing taller, and taller, and taller. The sun, which had just been breaking the horizon, seemed painfully bright, and Planae was struggling to run through the grasses that now were taller than them.   It was too bright, they couldn't see, they couldn't move, they couldn't hear anything but the rustling of the grass they were trapped in. The light was blinding. The grass was stifling. No one was there.   Planae woke up, to the sound of a nightbeast's trilling in the dark. The dream was fading fast already, their memory always seemed less dependable these days.   Oh, well, it could be dealt with, in the next few augmentations.
