The Rolling Wastes

Stretching on for days of travel, the Rolling Wastes are a jagged, boiling wasteland full of death. Right in the centre of the western continent, the Rolling Wastes is unnaturally hot. If the sun seems to shine differently over this area, prolonged exposure without cover or shade can lead to dire effects on people who travel through it. In the east of the Rolling Wastes stands the city of Scorchton, home to those who suffer from The Pining, which seems to strengthen them against the heat and sun's adverse effects, though you could not tell by looking at them.
There have not been many studies in the Rolling Wastes due to the circumstances mentioned above, and due to that, the nature of life that potentially lives within is a mystery to all in Amaltheon, but there have been reports of strange creatures ambushing travellers in the areas and even attacking the nearby village of Oakenfield. However, many believe this to simply be a hallucinatory side effect of the heat on the brain during travel.
