Thalamegos

Thalamegos (Greek: θαλαμηγός = "room carrier" from the Greek Thalamos (room) + Ago (haul/carry/lead) is a 115 by 14 m (377 by 46 ft), 20 m (66 ft) high, two-story Nile river palace barge.  

History

The huge twin-hulled catamaran was originally commissioned by Ptolemaic king Ptolemy IV Philopator for himself and his wife Arsinoe III ca. 200 BCE. While it was likely used by Cleopatra VII and Julius Caesar on their cruise up and down the Nile, the fate of the original is unknown.

Today

The modern reconstruction, commissioned by Idgyptian pharaoh Shadotep I, and serves as a floating palace for the pharaoh to travel up and down the Nile River.

Propulsion

It is powered by a single sail, though has to be towed to and from shore by other ships due to its massive size.
