Realm of Perdica
Structure
In Perdica the Kyb system has been re-adopted since its fundation.
This puts the High Lord of Peridas in a position of absolute power with a semi annihilation of local nobility.
Local power is given to governors whose mandate last 2 years. At the end of his mandate, every governor must return to the High Lord to renovate his loyalty and be assigned to a new province.
A governor may have his powers extended (giving him the right to retain higher autonomy) if he volunteers for genital castration.
Public Agenda
To repel any threat from their old masters, the Odrians.
It also seek to reunite the other Kyb successors into a new Kyb empire
History
Perdica is a fairly recent name of a fairly young kingdom, or "realm".
The name actually derives from the city where the independence insurrection originated: Perdias.
But to understand the motives behind this rebellion we must explore the decades long war between Odria.
and the Kyb realms called by the Odresian scholars "Terrible Occupation".
This war, which changed the assets of the world, brought thousands of Kyb citizens and soldier in the Odrian provinces of Rham ( in the north west of Perdica), Perdias, Dhargos (in the south-west) etc...
During the so called "terrible" occupation of southern Odria, the development of the occupied areas wasn't that terrible, in reality; trade with the Kyb realms proved dynamic and advantageous, the Kyb system was also more efficient in justice administration than the old odrian aristocracy.
During the occupation one of the last governors assigned to Perdias was "Aecleos Sodokos", considered the grandfather of Perdica. Aecleos was assigned to the city when the Odrian forces had already started to turn the war around, yet he accomplished his tasks with great dignity and competence, ensuring the safety of the city from the deserters and retreating soldiers, who often attacked the cities on their way back, allowing refugees inside the walls and finishing the construction of the city temple.
When the Odrian army arrived to claim the city Aecleos surrendered peacefully in exchange for the safety of his family and of the city. Hudwin accepted the surrender of Aecleos and left the city intact. Some years later he returned anyway and had the temple destroyed.
Aecleos was exiled back into the crumbling Kyb realm, where he would die during an insurrection, but his family secretly returned to Perdias, with the approval of the local merchants and commoners.
In 750 Irakneo Sodokos led a popular uprising which saw the Baron of Perdias fleeing the city on horseback. The king of Odria immediately demanded the rebellion to cease. Irakneo replied asking for a trial of the baron under the charge of tyranny. Once the trial was inevitably won by the rebels (as no citizen protected the baron) they named Irakneo as a candidate to the barony of Perdias. The king, perhaps naively, accepted.
What followed was a fast rise in popularity of Irakneo in all the formerly occupied territories and his general acclamation by the middle class. In 770 he was greeted by the peasantry as "Duke Perdias" despite him not owning any title that resembled the ducal one, making the situation unbearable for the king and the Odrian aristocracy.
Thus, in late 770, a council in Ghaulle was held in which the position of Irakneo and the status of the entire region were discussed. The assembly lasted five months and ended up with threats of war from both parties as no one wanted to back down, especially the king, who felt the Qhaste breathing on his neck as an infidel was ruling some of his land.
At the end of this five months long council, Irakneo decided to write to the prince of Andonia for support, as Andone princes were very proud defilers of Odrian rule, but he received no answer. Andonia could not risk a diplomatic crisis with Odria.
So he decided to write to his extended family in the Kyb anarchy and return to Perdias to better establish himself. But when he expressed his will to return to his city four king's knights grabbed and hit the man in the belly several times before he was thrown in jail.
Two weeks later he was publicly drown with the accusation of treason and heresy, and a new baron was sent to rule Perdias.
For eight years the new baron hunted down the Sodokos supporters and the sons of Irakneo, two of which where found and killed on the spot while resisting capture. Only Herno, the youngest of Irakneo's sons, managed to flee and find refuge in the farmlands of Rham. From there he wrote again to his family in Kyb land and asked for his cousin Mokide's support. His cousin, leader of a large mercenary band, had recently taken part at a failed coup in the Kyb, and the idea of a second chance in Odria convinced him to help his cousin.
Herno then returned, first in the city of Rham, then at Perdias disguised as a messenger and there he started spreading rumors of his return to encourage his supporters not to give up.
Soon the news of a large army having trespassed the southern border and claiming to be the Sodokos Army arrived to the Baron of Perdias who then attempted to rally the city with a speech in the main square.
Here, according to the legends, Herno revealed himself in front of the square and replied with his own speech, underlining how his family had always been loyal to the people of Perdias and how the Odrians had betrayed it, and how the baron's tyranny had oppressed the city. When the baron ordered his thugs to arrest him, the crowd protected Herno and the baron's men quickly changed sides. Then Herno personally slain the Baron as he was attempting to flee the city.
The news spread like wildfire, and city after city, the entire south had either surrendered to Mokide or had sworn fealty to Herno as High Lord of Perdias.
The realm of Perdica was declared in 778 and Herno was officially crowned High Lord.
With Mokide fighting off every Odrian attempt at reconquering the region, Herno was safe and free to bring some Kyb reforms in Perdica and rooting out the Qhaste influence.
Herno manages overall to protect Perdica from all threats, both external and internal, arriving to the point of having Mokide murdered when he became too powerful just to prevent any future crisis.
After Herno's reign (813) his son Hermido successfully and peacefully took the throne, confirming the Sodoko as the ruling dynasty of Perdica.
Hermido exploited a brief peace with Odria to consolidate the southern borders of Perdica, where a Kyb faction had emerged victorious and proclaimed the Tradica Kyb realm. After a brief war Tradica agreed to recognize the southern borders of Perdica, now officially the most powerful pseudo-Kyb realm remaining
Hermido will also win a decisive victory near Perdias in a moment of apparent Odrian victory. In this battle the Odrian heir to the throne is captured and a new peace is sealed. Hermido also ensured that, while the Qhaste power was being eradicated, no other group would take its place, not even the Kyb temples.
Perdica was a new realm, perfected result of both Odrian and Kyb legacies, but independent from both.
Hermido dies in 834, and his son's reign is rather peaceful but memorable as many aqueducts and old odrian roads are restored in these years.
in 849 he dies on a hunting accident and his younger brother takes the throne as the legitimate heir is only 7
in 858 the regent is dethroned by the rightful king and chooses castration over death. The new king is Alenno and his reign will be plunged once again into a big war with Odria, a war that will cost him parts of his south western holdings.
in 876, during a great feast in celebration for his heir's marriage to a woman very influential in the religious world, Alenno is poisoned, likely by his celebrated son himself : Sermides, young, ambitious and now emboldened by his new wife, Mesìlla.
Sermides has proven to be an intelligent ruler, but a ruthless one as well. In 886 he was accused of the kidnapping of king Hadalrd of Odria, but he has been denying every accusation, and, so far, has repelled any incursion from the grand duke Oddo .
Demography and Population
A quite urbanised country, especially thanks the vast Rham hills in the north and the Armon woods in the center.
The total population is made up of roughly 7 million inhabitants
Territories
Perdica's natural borders are:
The mountains to the east
The Rham hills and the Coude river to the northwest
The Entranth and Asutràas rivers to the south west
The Kybbil river to the south east
While it's northernmost and middle western borders are open and widely changeable because of the war.
Perdica is extremely rich in the border regions thanks to the big rivers which cross it and the mineral rich mountain range to the east.
The north is occupied the vast "Rham hills", a 200'000 square kilometers large hilly land.
At the hearth of Perdica the Armon forest lies, a thick and wild wood largely untouched.
Military
Perdica's advantage over Odria in their feud is their use of a professional standing army, based on the structure of a Kyb mercenary band, but extremely larger.
High positions in the army are held by generals raised in military academies rather then nobles, and are often eunuchs.
In 889 their entire army, spread over the borders, consists in more than 100'000 footmen.
Soldiers are usually orphans, freed slaves or peasants who could not pay the taxes who are trained for 3 months before being assigned to a general.
The "Ivory Faces " are the royal guard, and are the best of the best in the entire army, selected to protect the royal family and accomplish important tasks
