Aurix

Characterized by a deep spiritual tradition and cultural values of contemplation, introspection and connection to the universe, the Aurix tribe live in small communities surrounding mountain lakes and high valleys. They elect their leaders based on wisdom and dedication to justice, and though they remain secluded, sometimes they venture out into the world to make it a better place.

Shared customary codes and values

Introspection, self understanding, and justice are core principles of the Aurix tribe. They believe that justice is a natural force, beyond the Emerald Tablets, as fundamental as the Four Pillars, as pivotal as the Primal Music.   The people of Aurix treasure wisdom and believe that by studying the cosmic order and one's place within it, one can achieve peace. They also hold that peace requires justice. While they will engage in philosophical discussion with the learned, they don't tend to listen to people who aren't as studious or introspective. If you haven't done the work, you don't get to question their views.   Dragons are sources of wisdom and exemplars of Justice. The Elemental Sovereigns created Dragons because they recognized that they had failed to bring Justice to the Dawn World. In that way, Dragons exist to correct the errors of the Gods themselves. Aurixians meditate upon themselves and upon the ideals of dragons, and heed them for their wisdom.

Common Etiquette rules

It is customary for Aurixians to declare themselves to their hosts formally, to ensure that they are good guests, and to avoid debate with one's guests or hosts.

Art & Architecture

Beauty and harmony with nature above all else. The Aurixians choose secluded places of natural beauty to build their homes, and pride themselves on constructing homes and buildings that uplift and enhance, rather than replace, the beauty of the natural world. Every Aurixian settlement has its own design, based on its location.   Aurixian art emphasizes gold tones, gemstones, and pearls.

Foods & Cuisine

While Aurixian cuisine varies based on location (in keeping with their theme of harmony with nature/living off the land), they favor aromatic spices. Saffron is especially priced, and Aurixian Saffron Rice is famous throughout Okarthel and beyond.

Ideals

Courtship Ideals

It's normal for Aurixians to spend years courting each other before having children or being married. Aurixians are taught to find psychologically, morally and spiritually compatible mates, and to take their time with discernment. Spending time together in deep discussion and going alone to places of natural beauty are considered romantic. Gift giving is meant to be highly personal, artistic, and meaningful.   Aurixians do not require formal marriage, only the assent of those to be bonded. They may, if they wish, seek a blessing from their village's spiritual leader. If the rest of the village thinks it's a bad pairing they will let the couple know in private and encourage them to practice additional discernment, but nobody else gets a say in the end. While most bonds involve two people, the Aurixians accept polyamory as normal and morally neutral.
