Lyteri
Clinging to the western edges of Girru, Lyteri is a land defined by the sea. Its people have always lived and died by the waves' whims, fishing and sailing and taking shelter when the storms, or the creatures of the team, crash against the shores. The sea, the water, and the forests are all key aspects of Lyteri culture. Many of them are sailors, fishers, and riverfolk. In the distant past some of them raided each other in longboats, but for the most part the ancient League of Chieftains kept a modicum of peace.
Structure
Each city-state of Lyteri is theoretically independent (assuming it has successfully wrested self-governance from Galadron). They are given autonomy in internal matters, but the League of Chieftains has limited power to raise taxes, armies, and more from its members.
Each member of the league is left to select its own Chieftain, from the Prelates of Helmlight to the grandmother trolls of Gluk to the Magnificent King of Nenrie.
Public Agenda
Protection of its member tribes, resistance against Galadronian rule, prosperity and control of coastal trade and commerce.
History
Before the coming of Magnen the Fierce, Lyteri was ruled by the League of Chieftains, a coalition of city-states, tribes, and enclaves bound by a pact of mutual defense. When Erecura perished at the hands of Uzhul the Destroyer, the various member factions of Lyteri fell to internal conflict, or to the rising tide of the Demonic Imperium, whose spires and citadels rose up on the shore.
The rise of Ramius brought about the downfall of these powerful Infernal city-states, leaving the survivors to forge a new path ahead. Lyteri has one of the greatest populations of Tieflings in the Northern Kingdoms, as many of the descendents of the Imperium dwell in the holy city of Helmlight and its surrounding territories.
Even as the ancient League of Chieftains reformed, now including tieflings, tabaxi, and even the trolls of Gluk, the descendants of Magnen the Fierce marched down the coast, subjugating all in their path. Most of Lyteri eventually paid homage to Galadron as a vassal state, or was annexed entirely. The customs of the League of Chieftain and the policy of elective monarchy were outlawed.
Now that Galadron is wracked by civil war, the League of Chieftains struggles to re-assert its authority, persuading the nobles and leaders of the lands of Lyteri to reclaim their ancient identity.
Demography and Population
Lyteri's constituent city-states and tribes are widely and incredibly diverse. Romar boasts a large human and tabaxi population; Isurtzen is an enclave of gnome mystics; Qexel is one of the great homes of Dwarvendom in the East, Helmlight has the greatest population of Tieflings in Girru, and the Gluk swamps are home to orcs, half-orcs, trolls, and more.
Territories
Lyteri struggles for control over the forests north of Isurtzen, but Flindwood Forest and the Qexel mountains provide a stable natural border. Odasvale is contested territory between Lyteri, Galadron and Vercinget. The Eythgim peninsula marks the southern border of Lyteri, with the Gluk fens to the east separating their lands from Emankorrak.
Military
Each member of the League of Chieftains is responsible for raising their own military forces for mutual protection. There is no single unified army of Lyteri. That said, each city-state maintains a strong mercenary force, and Helmlight has a noted professional army.
Religion
Varies widely by city state, but Ramianism is very popular.
Foreign Relations
Lyteri is at war with Galadron for its own autonomy. It has shaky relations with Vercinget, as a potential enemy-mine situation. Emankorrak is close enough for both trading and raiding by both parties. Brontha, to the south, presents a domineering and religiously aggressive front.
Agriculture & Industry
Fertile grassland at the feet of the mountains provides the lands of Helmlight and Degol with ample food. Much Lyteran food comes from the sea.
Trade & Transport
Most trade in Lyteri is aquatic, with numerous sailing ships traversing the coast.
