Nuinn
Prince of the Whitethorn Tree
A hundred years I slept beneath a thorn Until the tree was root and branches of my thought, Until white petals blossomed in my crown. --The Traveler, Kathleen RaineThe Hawthorn tree is a sign of the paths between our world and the world beyond. In the spring, the Hawthorn brings love, fortune, and beauty; in other seasons, it is a mischievous, wicked power. Nuinn is this duality embodied. A fairy who delights in both beauty and fear, the branches of Nuinn’s power shut out the influence of all other fairies and magicians, should he so choose. Nuinn dwells in a secret grove adjacent to the Mortal World . He is attended by a host of thorn sprites, who change from slender and comely wisps to barb covered predatory hunters. Nuinn does not know anger, but his frustration and confusion can bring great suffering to those who invoke it. His mask rarely covers his face, and his feet set roots down wherever he walks, finding hidden streams and rich earth to sustain his youthful beam.
Physical Description

Thorn trees are associated with protective magic, and Nuinn can bar others from wielding magic or other power in his domain.
