Ava was a lowborn half-elf whose father married a noblewoman and elevated her into nobility. Although she spent the later half of her childhood in the court, she never forgot her impoverished beginnings. She joined the fae knights and there met the High Emperor. She was surprised when he began to court her. At the age of thirty-four, after ten years of courtship, she married him.

Personal history
Ava Greensky was born to a human mother and elven father on the outskirts of the Samael Empire. Her mother died when she was ten, and her father moved them closer to the center of the Empire. He did as many poor elven fathers do, and tried to find a wealthy woman to marry. He succeeded, and pushed Ava to join the fae knights as soon as she was old enough. She got in, cementing her family's position in the court.
Shortly after becoming a fae knight, Ava met the High Emperor. He was cool to her at first, but after she escorted him on a tour across the Empire, they grew closer. He began courting her upon their return, and after only ten years, asked her to marry him. She agreed, and they were married quickly.
Ava was a controversial Empress. The courts despised her for her low birth and short lifespan, but the common folk loved her for how connected she was to them. She was notoriously kind to the lower races in the Empire, but never so flagrantly as to draw her husband's ire. She was considered an eccentric woman who put aside her "hobbies" (which included philanthropy, funding expeditions for the purpose of elevating poor neighborhoods, and distributing education tools) to be a dutiful wife and Empress. The common folk widely considered her to be paving the way for lower races' rights in the Empire. The birth of her twin children was widely celebrated, and she controversially allowed her human family to be present to view the infants.
Unfortunately, Ava was killed by drow assassins shortly after the birth of her children. The entire Empire mourned for over a year, and the Emperor's call for war against the drow was almost universally celebrated.

Ava was genderfluid, which made her quite a hit at court. Though she always used "she" pronouns, the terms she used to refer to herself and her presentation was often fluctuating.
