Halflings
True children of the earth, halflings are a generally well-liked, but extremely reclusive people. They burrow in a similar nature to dwarves, but aren't at home if they can't come up to see the sun at least once a day. They are one of the most populous species, but their communities are often so insular that some people may go their entire lives without ever meeting a halfling.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Halflings are humanoid, but extremely short. Four feet is considered extremely tall for a halfling, with most averaging just below three feet. They don't have the same propensity towards stockier builds that dwarves do, but their bodies, like dwarves, tend to hang onto fat for a long while. (This may be due to the fact that many halfling communities have faced periods of great hunger.) About half of all halflings are born with four eyes.
Genetics and Reproduction
Halflings are able to have a great deal of children very quickly. Their infants are particularly small and helpless, but their bodies recover from birth so quickly that they are usually able to comfortably get pregnant again within a month. They can reproduce with most other species, but larger species often pose a great risk if the halfling is giving birth.
Growth Rate & Stages
Halflings are the most short-lived race, living barely less time than humans. They grow extremely quickly as infants and children, and then from adulthood (which they reach at 15), they seem to age slower. It is extremely rare that a halfling lives to see 100 years.
