Xavast, The Sunken Mind

Xavast, The Sunken Mind is a mysterious being, spoken of in whispers for most of history. He has the creationary (and destructive) powers of a god, but is not considered part of the primary pantheon and is never mentioned in any major religious texts.    The first historical mention of Xavast comes from an ancient account of a dwarven city, deep within the Underdark, who encountered a being of immense psychical power. Over time, this being decimated their civilization, driving their people mad, and leaving the city in ruins. Some scholars believe that Icharyd was built on the ashes of this haunted place.     There are also some accounts of Xavast appearing roughly four-hundred years ago in the nation that would eventually become Kul'Morava - though these are not substantiated. However, a Moravian criminal organization and cult, known as the Xavast Crusade, continues to worship this being as if he were real.     What few details have been discovered about Xavast are in the possession of a small band of adventurers who fought the Xavast Crusade during their invasion of Riocruce. Much of this comes from the being himself and can only be partially verified.    Xavast was Ausalai, The First Seed's attempt at creating life outside of the natural structures already present on Aorna. He was both of nature and above nature. She gifted him the ability to deliver consciousness to the species of the planet - so they could tend to it for themselves, but before long, grew suspicious of him. Xavast believes that she was disgusted by him because he was unnaturally created - and punished him for something he could not control. She attempted to bury him beneath the ground, but he escaped, leaving pieces of himself buried there. She attempted to drown him beneath the sea, but he rose to the surface, scattering more of himself in the depths. Finally, she worked with her lover, Estus, The Purifying Light, to send Xavast to The Void , where he would live out the rest of his existence - unable to influence the material plane.    In the eons since, Xavast has built his own world within the Void, which he claims to be free of conflict. It is a mirror of the Material Plane that seems to have successfully met his goal, though anyone who has been there has only examined it on a cursory level.    The pieces of Xavast that were scattered in his early life are occasionally dug up by unsuspecting passersby. They appear as stingray shaped creatures, and when attached to the back of a host's neck, can allow him to control their faculties. His powerset is severely diminished in this form - due to the Seeds of Concordance - but it has allowed him to exercise a degree of control over his old home. He uses these hosts to court followers, in hopes of discovering the Seeds, allowing him a path to return at full power.    Confirmed Hosts of Xavast:
  • Sovereign Prince Rodrigo Salemanco of Aracia: Was abducted by Anoch'Toval Drow and brought to Icharyd where he was forced to host the Xavast. Rodrigo was rescued and has since been removed from Xavast's influence.
  • The Leviathan - A mammoth creature living beneath the waves of the Merchant Sea. Was banished back to the Plane of Water.
  • Yuliaster Clari'Ohm - A curious sorcerer who briefly befriended Xavast and offered herself to be his host.
  • Jessamine Sanguergenta - A skeptical thief who hosted Xavast as a last resort before allowing her party to kill the piece of him.
  • The Godking of Kul'Morava
Many of Xavast's true motivations are unknown. While he has frequently resorted to vicious and brutal violence, he has expressed a desire to "convince" others to his viewpoint through peaceful means.
