Riocruce
While Nansuelo is the seat of power in Aracia, Riocruce (meaning "Crucera's River" in Aracian) is undoubtedly the most important city within the Sovereign Prince's influence. With most of the nation land-locked, Riocruce is Aracia's only major port and its only access to the Merchant Sea. It is the gateway to Girduar, Pennystone, the Vathesian Cities and all the nations of Vul'Badir, and thus, key to the wealth of the crown, the merchants and the people.
With a population of more than one million, Riocruce is also one of the most diverse and populous cities in Sheanora. It is often called the "Open City", as there are no walls to keep anyone out. All people are welcome in Riocruce, especially if they have something to trade, to sell or to buy.
Riocruce is split in half by the Maktiga River, a mighty waterway considered sacred by the hill dwarves of Torcest. The Western half of the city, which lies in Frontier territory, is where the working class resides, though it is also the center of arts and entertainment. In the Valverde Plaza and Gold Harbor neighborhoods, nobles, merchants and peasants intermingle as they attend the theater or roll dice at one of the many casinos. Aracia is proud of its artistic culture and in many ways, this small area in Riocruce best represents the nation as a whole.
The Eastern half of the city, which lies in actual Aracian territory, is home to Riocruce's many businesses and is the heart of trade and worship. From the palace district, Governor Ernesto Salemanco looks over his city with pride. The massive castle that resides there will also host the Sovereign Prince when he spends time in the Open City. Most of Aracia's wealth travels through these streets, where particularly successful nobles and merchants have built massive homes to fit their egos.
Riocruce was the site of a major planar incursion just over a month ago. A criminal organization was nearly successful in opening portals to the Void throughout the city and were just barely stopped by a band of adventurers. Most of the population was evacuated and it was later discovered that the plot was orchestrated by Giancalo and Basilia Salemanco. They were imprisoned, but before long, Giancalo's loyalists in the military invaded the city to free him. His faction now considers Riocruce its capital.
