Tir fo Thuin
This is the land of the Merfolk (and other seafolk), it means Land under the Waves/Sea. Their capital is Aquana, it is constructed of a coral-like cement, grown by Walarans. Domesticated sea slugs are trained to clean and upkeep the buildings. Hot/Cold vents and currents are used to control the temperatures in the city.
Borders are patrolled by Waveriders, and cities are protected by magical shields. Transportation is via whales, giant manta rays, snails, squid, etc.. they either have gondola compartments or are hollow construct-like magical creatures (like tin man and spelljammer).
Since Aquatica is mostly covered with water, there is a large variety of sea races and creatures. Either from natural cross-breeding, biomancy, or the Chaos Wars. Many creatures still exhibit their primitive beginnings with their large size and other characteristics. Because of this, it is easy to mistake them for non-sentient animals. Some examples are whales, squids, and rays.
Writing is almost impossible underwater without the aid of magic or carving in stone. So most communications are verbal and histories are remembered as an oral tradition. Special scribes are taught from childhood to have great skills in recall and mimicry (like Druidic bards or Dune’s Mentats). Dry rooms are often created when things need to be stored in air, hover bands allow the Merfolk to swim through the air.
Many sea folk cities are nearby to surround these atolls. Some of the atolls are sacred to the seafolk. The archipelago consists of thousands of atolls (coral crowns on the rims of ancient volcanoes). Each atoll traps and holds a piece of the ocean, a lagoon that acts like a giant soup tureen for plankton.
The natives follow the Ocean God (water elemental) Oromo, his priests/shamans speak Aquan.
Common races: Merfolk, aquatic elves, walaran, aquatic halflings, silky, water genasi, etc. Awakened sea creatures of all types: whales, rays, dolphins, otters, etc.
