Cala Picaro
Cala Picaro lies in a natural cove, surrounded by high, steep cliffs. There are no beaches, every scrap of space is fitted with piers, harbours and then board-walks where there are stalls, shops and buildings. Even a large amount of the land is paved with wood (reclaimed from old ships) as many there prefer the feel of boards beneath their feet. A good number walk barefoot, as upon ship (especially the halflings). The crab-claw shaped conurbation fills the shallow cove area. There is one path up to the main ground level of the island, called The Ladder – it’s narrow and perilous, so few venture up there.
Available here is contraband, ships (if you don’t ask too many questions) and ship repair.
Kerdos on the island and in its waters are bound by the Accords not to attack or kill each other. No such protections exists for non-Kerdos.
Notable Locations
The Council Galley
This is built totally on shore, occupying the high-point of the cove, The Ladder (a narrow, carved staircase to the main heights of the island), passing next to it. It’s built with a shape and footprint similar to a Galleon, side on, with the decks serving as lookout towers (plus the Crow’s Nest is high enough to see over the cliffs, but small enough not to be seen at sea). Above it flies the flag of the Kerdos – a Red, serifed X on a black background.Slunk’s Junk
A bric-a-brac stall of flotsam unloaded onto the owner by pirates wanting to quickly off-load their cargo. You might find anything! The owner, Slunk, is a female goblin who used to work in a brothel, but didn’t like the hours. What a Cock Up!
A shop where all the best captains buy their hats.Cutlass & Glass
A rickety old dive bar right by the docks. It's owned by Trish One-Ear - an old woman with a red embroidered eyepatch and short grey hair. She is an excellent source of rumors and information, if you get on her good side. Serves a spicy 'meat stew' which may or may not be made of cat. Will tell lewd jokes and talk shit about her ex-girlfriends if you get her drunk. The Shipyards
The dockyards are run by Wigand Silverbeam, a mahogany-skinned dwarf with a chin like Popeye and stiff beard that sticks out almost horizontally. Though most dwarves like to form stone, he’s bored of the stereotype, as he comes from a long line of Dwarven Woodsmiths. Creating support beams for mines translated quite well into ship-building and his father built quite a lucrative concern here in these islands. The docks bustle with dwarven, local humans and a smattering of others and there’s sounds of sawing, hammering and chanting.
